Tipi Ceremony – PachaMama, Costa Rica

The Tipi Ceremony at PachaMama Eco Village & Retreat Center in Nicoya, Guanacaste, Costa Rica, is a ceremony held in the Red Road tradition that the center offers alongside its meditation retreats, yoga workshops and musical journeys. It is for people drawn to prayer, ceremony and plant medicine who want to sit in a tipi in the tropical forest of the Nicoya Peninsula, in the company of a community.

Formats

PachaMama holds the Tipi Ceremony in more than one form across the year. There is the general Tipi Ceremony, open to all, which spans two days on the calendar. There is also a Women of all nation Tipi Ceremony and a Men's Tipi Ceremony, each held separately for those who prefer to gather in a circle of women or of men. The Red Road at PachaMama

PachaMama lists Red Road Ceremonies among its regular offerings. The Vision Quest, described as one of the oldest methods used by indigenous people on the Red Road as a kind of initiation, is part of the same family of work. Anyone drawn to the Tipi Ceremony may find this wider context useful, since the center treats ceremony as a continuing practice, not a one-off event.

The Setting

The ceremony takes place at PachaMama Eco Village & Retreat Center, set in tropical forest in Nicoya, Guanacaste. The center also holds gatherings on the riverbanks of its jungle reserve, so the surroundings are rooted in nature rather than in a city or resort. The same grounds host Body Cleanse programs, silent retreats, Vipassana, breathwork trainings and all-night musical ceremonies, which gives the place the feel of a working retreat community.

PachaMama closes its doors for September and October, during Costa Rica's rainy season. Ceremonies are scheduled in the other months.
