The Shamanic Journey (Hybrid)

The Shamanic Journey is an online shamanic course in a hybrid format, offered through the Foundation of the Sacred Stream, a school for consciousness studies in Berkeley, California. It is for people who want to study shamanic practice from home, in a structure that combines recorded teaching with time together in a live class. It is led by Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D., the school's founding director, and is held through the school's Distance Learning program.

How the Course Works

The Hybrid format blends two kinds of learning. Part of the course is pre-recorded video lectures, which you can watch on your own. The rest is live video conference class meetings, where the group gathers with the teacher at set times. The course runs over a span of two weeks. Days and times for the live meetings vary, and the school notes that class schedules can change due to unforeseen circumstances, so it is worth checking the page before you plan your weeks.

Because the lectures are recorded, the course asks for some self-directed study between meetings. Because the meetings are live, there is still a real classroom: questions, conversation and shared practice with other students, wherever they are logging in from.

About Isa Gucciardi

Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D., is the Founding Director of the Foundation of the Sacred Stream, a non-profit school for consciousness studies in Berkeley that she founded in 2002. She is the creator of Depth Hypnosis, a therapeutic model, and the author of Coming to Peace.

Her path into this work began early. She spent most of her early years in other countries before moving to the United States as a teenager, and she was struck by how little people around her wanted to talk about death. Reading Elisabeth Kübler-Ross's On Death and Dying in the early seventies was a relief. Years of volunteering in hospice settings, including the Zen Hospice Project, led her to a view she still holds: everyone grieves in their own way, and the most helpful thing is often to sit quietly and offer a non-judgmental space.
