Description

The New Year's Eve Meditation is a group meditation offered by Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF), held online and at SRF locations worldwide. It is open to SRF members and friends who want to close the year in meditation rather than in noise, whether from home or alongside others at a nearby SRF center or temple. It belongs to SRF's holiday season programming, which also includes an online Christmas Open House and an All-Day Christmas Meditation.

The meditation follows the tradition of Paramahansa Yogananda, who founded Self-Realization Fellowship in 1920 and whose teachings center on the Kriya Yoga path of meditation. SRF monks and nuns lead the holiday season events that are streamed online.

What to Expect

This is a meditation held on the final day of the year, shared by people in many places at once. Those joining online take part through the SRF livestream. Those who prefer to be in a room with others can attend at an SRF location, since the program is also held in person around the world.

SRF describes its holiday season as a time to celebrate Christmas and New Year's together, with online events led by SRF monks and nuns and special in-person events at SRF locations. The New Year's Eve Meditation is part of that season. SRF also offers weekly online inspirational services featuring its monks and nuns, and the SRF Online Meditation Center hosts group meditations and study of SRF teachings for those who wish to continue after the year turns.

About Paramahansa Yogananda

Paramahansa Yogananda is the author of Autobiography of a Yogi, which is available in more than 50 languages, and the founder of Self-Realization Fellowship. SRF describes him as the Father of Yoga in the West and a beloved world teacher. His teaching centers on the Kriya Yoga path of meditation, and it also covers the true meaning of yoga, the unity of the scriptures, and the science of prayer and affirmation. Devotional chanting and kirtan are part of the tradition he began.

Self-Realization Fellowship carries on his spiritual and humanitarian work, including the SRF Lessons, a home-study course on meditation and spiritual living that begins with a nine-month series. In India his work is known as Yogoda Satsanga Society of India. The international headquarters is in Los Angeles, at Mount Washington.

Where It Takes Place

The meditation is offered online, so you can take part from wherever you are. It is also held at SRF locations worldwide. Each location handles its own in-person program, so anyone planning to attend in person should check with the SRF center or temple nearest them for local details.
