Guided Meditation: Finding the Spark of "I Am Love"

Close your eyes, slow your breath, and picture yourself as a deep-sea diver sinking into the dark water of your own body. That is the opening move of Michelle Chalfant's eight-minute guided meditation "I Am Love," a recording built on one stubborn premise: love is not something you go out and collect. It is already inside you, and the practice is a descent to find it, a way to let it grow, and a way to let it pour back out into the room. Nothing about the session asks for belief or special training. It asks for breath, attention, and a willingness to go somewhere quiet and look.

Lecture · 9 sections

Why does the meditation start by saying love is outside us?

The video opens with its thesis, delivered before any instruction. The illusion, as Chalfant frames it, is that we must go find love, that it lives in other people, in circumstances, in things. The corrective is stated just as plainly: "the truth is that we're nothing but love and we don't have to do anything to get it for it is within." That sentence, spoken at the top of the recording (around 0:19 in the transcript), sets the frame for everything that follows. The meditator is not being asked to manufacture love. They are being asked to stop searching for it in the places where it isn't.

That reframing matters because it changes what the practice is for. If love must be earned or sourced from outside, a meditation becomes a kind of preparation for getting it. If love is already present, the meditation becomes a matter of uncovering, observing, and expanding something that never left. Chalfant's script leans fully into the second model. Every instruction after the opening is about turning attention inward, not reaching out.

What does the deep-sea dive actually ask you to do?

The first movement is descent. Chalfant asks the listener to let awareness "fall deep inside of you," to feel oneself "gently traveling inside of your being," and then gives the most vivid image in the recording: "as if you're a deep sea diver swimming and exploring the abyss." Around 1:33 she adds a note that will matter later: it "feels warm, it feels safe, yet it looks dark." The darkness is not treated as a threat. It is the depth you have to pass through to reach the thing you are looking for.

This is a sound design choice for a guided meditation. Visualization gives the mind something concrete to do while the breath slows. The diver metaphor also contains an instruction in miniature: you go down slowly, you don't panic at the dimness, and you keep swimming. The breath is written into the image. Each time the script says "take another breath," the listener is being asked to let the breath carry them a little further in.

How do you find the spark of light inside you?

Once the descent reaches depth, the script shifts to search. "Look for the spark of light deep within you," Chalfant says around 2:14, and the instruction to "travel all throughout your being" makes the body a territory to be surveyed. The spark can be "a tiny spark or bigger than a spark." You won't need to force a particular image. The line is precise: "you will know it when you see it."

That open-ended wording is worth paying attention to. Many meditation scripts tell you exactly what to picture. This one deliberately leaves the form of the light unspecified and trusts the listener to recognize it. The only condition offered is a claim about universality: "if you are alive and breathing you have this spark of light." Whatever you find, the teacher is saying, it is not a special achievement. It is the baseline condition of being alive, and you just have to go deep enough to notice it.

What happens when the spark grows?

The second half of the meditation is amplification, and it is where the recording does its most physical work. Chalfant instructs the listener to observe the spark without grabbing at it, to watch it, and to notice that "as you gaze at this spark it begins to grow and expand." The light then moves through the body: "fill up every cell all of your tissue every muscle bone with this beautiful light." Around 3:27 the instruction is to see the lungs fill with light, so that "all of your insides are illuminated."

Attention, in this sequence, is treated as a kind of fuel. The spark grows because you are looking at it. The practice works on the premise that the mind's gaze is not passive. Rather than asking the listener to imagine light arriving from somewhere else, the script keeps the light inside the body and lets it radiate outward from its own source.

Why does the heart chakra matter in this practice?

Around the middle of the recording, the light finds a focal point. "In the middle of your chest you feel a pressure building as this light wants to expand outside of your body." The heart chakra opens, and "the light flows out of you like a river," cascading through the heart and filling the energy field around you, out into the room, "as far as it wants to go."

The heart is the hinge of the whole meditation. Everything up to this point has been about going in; this is the moment the energy turns outward and becomes giving rather than only receiving. The script names the mechanism in its own terms: the light "clears away all of the blocks resistance to love," including "all the past hurts misinterpretations self-doubt shame grief." Chalfant's language here is not clinical. It treats emotional residue as something that can be cleared by a steady outflow of light, and it describes the cleared space as room "for more love to come and go from you."

"Your are now a receiver and a giver of love. This light helps you to be seen and heard to bring in more abundance of all kinds."

Michelle Chalfant, in the "I Am Love" meditation video (around 4:45 in the transcript)

That line carries the practice's central pairing. Receiving and giving are not treated as separate skills. The meditation insists they are the same open channel, and the heart is the place where the channel stays clear.

How does the "I am love" phrase fit into the meditation?

Only after the light has passed through the heart does the recording introduce the affirmation. Chalfant asks the listener to say, "I am love," and repeat it. The phrase is not a slogan dropped onto the practice; it is the verbal form of what the visualization has just demonstrated. The meditator has spent several minutes finding, expanding, and releasing the light. The phrase names what has been found.

The script gives a reason for the repetition, framed as a principle: "we are an attractor to that which we are." If you are love, Chalfant argues, you will receive more love throughout the day. She asks the listener to carry the phrase into daily life, repeating it through the day. The affirmation is designed to outlast the session.

What does the meditation ask you to keep after it ends?

The closing section is a set of daily instructions. The meditator is asked to keep the heart center open by breathing in and out through it, to recognize the stream of energy as something that "you can never run out" of, and to see that "you are connected to Source therefore you have a never-ending supply of light." Near the end, Chalfant reduces the whole practice to a short routine: find the inner spark, expand it, and let it travel in and out of the heart, every day. Her last line is the one the title promises: "remember you're nothing but love."

The word "Source" is used without elaboration in the recording. It is a spiritual term, and Chalfant does not stop to define it or argue for it. Listeners who bring a different framework can translate it. What the meditation actually asks is simpler: a daily return to the same inner light, practiced with the same breath.

How can you practice this meditation yourself?

The recording's structure suggests a workable routine. Sit or lie somewhere quiet and close your eyes. Breathe slowly and imagine descending into your body as a diver would, without rushing the dim parts. Look for a spark of light, whatever size or form it takes. Watch it, and let it grow until it fills your chest, lungs, and limbs. Let the light gather at the heart and flow outward, releasing anything you're holding. Then say "I am love" slowly, several times, and breathe the light in and out through the heart. Carry the phrase into the rest of your day.

For a reader new to guided meditation, the most useful thing is to treat the spark as an instruction rather than a test. The recording tells you that you will know it when you see it. If you don't see anything dramatic, the practice is still doing its work in the breath, the attention, and the slow turn inward.

Where to go from here

"I Am Love" is a short, focused meditation that does one thing: it takes the claim that love is already within you and gives you a route to test it. The best way to understand it is to sit with the recording once, then return to it on a day when you want to practice the same inward turn. Chalfant's full library of meditations is available at michellechalfant.com/meditations, where the source recording and its companions can be explored on their own terms.

  • Listen once without trying to achieve anything, just to follow the descent.
  • On a second pass, spend extra time on the spark, watching it grow and noticing where the light gathers.
  • Practice the closing routine for a few days and notice how the phrase "I am love" sits with you during ordinary hours.

It is an eight-minute guided meditation built on the premise that love is not found outside us but is already within. The listener descends inward, finds a spark of light, expands it through the body, opens the heart chakra, and repeats the affirmation "I am love."
The video runs about eight minutes (listed as 8:07). It is short enough to practice daily and structured so the listener can return to the same sequence each time.
The spark is an inner point of light the listener is asked to find by traveling deep within the body. The script says it can be tiny or larger than a spark, and that you will know it when you see it. Once found, it is observed and allowed to grow until it illuminates the whole inner being.
The diver image gives the mind a concrete action to follow while the breath slows. The script describes the depths as warm and safe though they look dark, which frames the inner descent as something to move through calmly rather than fear.
The recording uses spiritual language, including the word "Source," but it does not explain or require a particular belief system. The practice itself centers on breath, visualization, and repeating the phrase "I am love," which listeners can approach in their own terms.
Chalfant asks listeners to repeat the phrase during the day and to keep the heart center open by breathing light in and out through it. She ties this to the idea that we attract what we are, so that living from the sense of being love is meant to bring more love into life.
Her meditations are listed at michellechalfant.com/meditations, according to the video description. That page is the place to find this recording and others from the same source.
