Pixie Lighthorse is a writer, educator and community builder whose work draws on the earth, animal and plant studies, and the Medicine Circle. She is the author of the Prayers of Honoring series, Boundaries & Protection: Honoring Self, Honoring Others (2017), Goldmining the Shadows: Honoring the Medicine of Wounds, and The Wound Makes the Medicine (Row House Publishing, 2023). She also made the all-ages illustrated book Earth Is Holding You with her friend, the artist Flora Bowley.
Her books aim to help people sort through the influences that block their connection to greater sources of peace and wisdom. In her words, the driving force behind her work is helping humans restore liberation to themselves and vitality to Earth. She has created over fifty original online courses that bring integrative transformative practice, animal and plant studies, and the Medicine Circle into healing soul work. She also leads grief groups and the Journey Forth prayer, meditation and visioning community.
Pixie builds communities and hosts discussions that combine practical tools, a great deal of help from the earth, and humor. She trained as a healer between 1999 and 2012. Her earlier SouLodge and Earth Medicine School (2010–2020) offered ritual pathways, boundaries practice, shadow work and study of plant, animal and Earth medicines. Her current Takla Nowa Kinship School takes its name from the Chahta phrase for traveling together. It focuses on kinship, belonging and community connection.
She grew up among farms, ranches, animals and wildlife in the San Joaquin Valley of California, and studied literature and art at Cal State Northridge. She is currently studying indigenous liberation and sovereignty at Oregon State University. She is a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, and her family descends from the southeastern Five Tribes. She writes as Lighthorse to honor the silenced voices of her southeastern tribal ancestors. She lives in Central Oregon.
