Maja Mika is a yoga teacher, breathwork facilitator, author and retreat creator. Beneath those titles, she says, she is simply a human being on a spiritual journey, just like the people she guides.
Her path began in 2014. She was studying Film Production and dreaming of making documentaries, while feeling anxious, exhausted and disconnected from herself. She went to a gym class on a friend's suggestion, expecting only some physical exercise. Somewhere in that hour her breath deepened and her mind stopped circling. It was the first time she had truly relaxed. Yoga became a lifeline through her hardest years, and then, she says, the ocean found her too.
For over a decade she has gathered practices from around the world. She now brings them together in small-group retreats built on safety, presence and real connection. Each retreat combines daily yoga, breathwork and meditation with ceremony, such as cacao rituals. Most also include ethical encounters with wild marine life: spinner dolphins at Sataya Reef in Egypt, humpback whales in Tonga, whale sharks off Mafia Island in Tanzania, and sea turtles and manta rays in the Maldives. She has also led a retreat of elemental yoga on Terceira in the Azores. One Egypt retreat is a collaboration with Flowstate Freediving, offering freediving for complete beginners alongside yoga.
Her stated mission is to remind people that they are the author of their own story, and that they can begin again and come home to themselves. As she puts it on her site: "Yoga taught me how to come home to my body. The ocean taught me how to come home to my heart."
