Jewell Singletary is the founder and lead holistic well-being instructor of Gratitude Griot LLC, a well-being business that helps people ease stress through trauma-informed yoga, somatic meditation, and therapeutic arts. She is also a creative entrepreneur, educator, multidisciplinary artist, and mental health advocate, with work in holistic wellness, short films, and textile art. Through teaching and creating, she encourages her community to use art, music, movement, and meditation as healing tools for mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.
Jewell holds a 500-hour Yoga Trauma Informed Teacher certification, as well as Therapeutic Art Coach and Reiki certifications. She has lived with Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis for almost three decades, and that experience with chronic illness drives her commitment to sharing the value of an intentional self-care practice. Her own healing tools have been yoga, meditation, reiki, journaling, art, music, and time in nature.
Before founding Gratitude Griot, she spent 12 years in the corporate fashion industry as a designer and business planner for companies including JC Penney and Nike, Inc. She then followed her passion for holistic healing. She has taught thousands of hours of workshops and continues to study anatomy-based movement and mental health modalities.
The name Gratitude Griot draws on the griots of West Africa, the storytellers who shared the history of their people. Jewell teaches the benefits of a consistent gratitude practice and thoughtful storytelling, and she honors the healing potential of transparency and of owning our human experience. Her work is offered to individuals, studios, schools, workplaces, and community partners, and her team is trained to support vulnerable populations, including people living with chronic pain, domestic violence survivors, the LGBTQIA+ community, and children and adults with special needs.
