Charlie Arnott is an award-winning, eighth-generation Australian farmer, educator, podcaster and advocate for regenerative farming and wellness. He farms Hanaminno, his family's 5,000-acre property at Boorowa, New South Wales, which under his guidance has moved from a conventional, industrial, high-input mixed enterprise working against Nature to a biodynamically principled, holistically managed farm partnering with Nature.
His own turn came after a series of epiphanies and through education, when he found the regenerative agriculture movement. It reflected his instinctive connection to the land and his wish to produce quality food for his family and the world. Today Hanaminno is managed using organic, biodynamic and holistic grazing principles. It produces pasture-raised beef, lamb and pigs, handled in a low-stress way and raised without chemicals, hormones, vaccines or drenches. The farm sells directly to butchers and families, and its clients are treated as co-producers whose feedback and connection help guide production.
Charlie and his team run two-day workshops at Hanaminno and across Eastern Australia, teaching farmers, gardeners and families the principles and practices of biodynamics. They also hold open community preparation-making days on the farm. He describes his work as putting the culture back into agriculture. His recognition includes several agricultural awards for leadership, resource management and conservation, among them the Bob Hawke National Landcare Award in 2018.
He hosts The Regenerative Journey podcast and shares education on biodynamics, soil, grass and the ecology of farming and grazing land on YouTube. He makes it for farmers and for everyday consumers who want to understand the processes behind the food they eat.
Worth Knowing
Charlie Arnott is an eighth-generation Australian farmer, educator and podcaster who runs Hanaminno, his family's 5,000-acre property at Boorowa in New South Wales. People pay attention because the farm is the case study: under his guidance it moved from a conventional, industrial, high-input mixed operation to one managed on biodynamic and holistic grazing principles. His own turn toward regenerative agriculture followed a series of epiphanies and formal education, framed as a return to an instinctive connection with the land. Hanaminno now produces pasture-raised beef, lamb and pork, handled in a low-stress way and raised without chemicals, hormones, vaccines or drenches. The animals are sold directly to butchers and families. Arnott describes his mission as putting the culture back into agriculture, and his public teaching is practical, aimed at farmers, gardeners and consumers who want to understand the processes behind their food.
