Dr Abbey Leigh is a Doctor of Ayurveda and a yoga teacher. She is a Pancha Karma Specialist, Marma Therapist and Polarity Therapist, a graduate of the CCA Herbal Apprenticeship (Certified Ayurvedic Herbalist), and a registered YACEP yoga instructor with Yoga Alliance (E-RYT).
Her path into this work began with her own health. In her late twenties, while living in New York City, she developed illnesses that neither she nor her doctors could explain. She left her career and moved to central Mexico, where she found her Polarity Therapy teacher and studied with him and his wife. A later bout of meningitis and Chronic Lyme Disease led to a long recovery, and it was during that time that Ayurveda gave her what she describes as a clear and direct path to healing. She deepened her yoga practice toward its subtle and energetic side, enrolled in Ayurvedic college, and began a 500-hour Sri Vidya Tantra Yoga training.
Today she is a Master Teacher and an AHCi and CASi Intern Supervisor at the California College of Ayurveda, and she leads Yoga Teacher Trainings around the world. On her blog she writes about living in step with the seasons, sharing seasonal routines, foods and practices such as cooling breath for the Pitta season.
She describes her lifelong practice as living in authenticity. Outside of teaching she likes to dance, admire plants and hike the desert mountains.
Worth Knowing
Abbey Leigh MAS is a Doctor of Ayurveda, Pancha Karma Specialist, Marma Therapist, Polarity Therapist, and E-RYT yoga teacher who guides students toward sustainable healing. Her work draws on her own recovery: in her late twenties, while living in New York City, she developed illnesses that neither she nor her Western doctors could explain, and she later survived meningitis and Chronic Lyme Disease. Ayurveda gave her what she describes as a clear and direct path to healing, centered on building ojas, the wellspring of vitality, and rekindling agni, the digestive fire. Listeners and students tend to care because she treats illness as a passage into her dharma rather than a detour from it. She is also a Master Teacher and intern supervisor at the California College of Ayurveda, which gives her work a clinical grounding alongside its personal origin. Her teaching sits where Ayurvedic practice, yoga asana, pranayama, mantra, and breathwork meet, and that overlap is what sets her apart from many yoga-only teachers.
