Descrizione
Seeing That Frees: Exploring the Path of Emptiness is a residential Buddhist meditation retreat at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies in Barre, Vermont. It is led by Yahel Avigur and centers on the emptiness teachings of Rob Burbea, offered to meditators who want to look into the nature of self and world rather than only calm the mind.
The retreat takes the path of emptiness as a set of practical ways of looking. These are approaches meant to reduce dukkha, the stress and dissatisfaction that come with clinging, and to relax the usual sense of self and world. From there the practice opens toward deeper insight, freedom, relief, and a sense of boundlessness. If you have wondered what emptiness means in lived experience and not only as an idea, this insight meditation retreat is built around that question.
What to Expect
The focus is the path of emptiness as explored in Rob Burbea's approach. The practice is looking: learning to see experience in ways that loosen fixed views of self and world. As the retreat is residential, you stay on site for the length of the program, so the practice carries through the day without a break for travel or outside demands.
Yahel Avigur also leads two other programs in the same season at the center. One explores MahaSati emptiness awareness practices from the Southern Thai forest tradition. The other, Deepening Joy, is a samadhi and jhana retreat drawing on approaches inspired by Rob Burbea. Together they suggest a teacher at home with both concentration and emptiness practice.
About Yahel Avigur
Yahel Avigur is the teacher of this retreat. He also teaches MahaSati, a set of awareness practices from the Southern Thai forest tradition that cultivate pure awareness and the release of reactive patterns through embodiment, concentration, emptiness, and letting go. He leads a samadhi and jhana retreat that draws on approaches inspired by Rob Burbea, aimed at sensitivity, attunement, and refined perception while opening the heart and body to calm, aliveness, and joy. Both offerings show his grounding in the same body of practice that shapes this retreat.
The Setting
The Barre Center for Buddhist Studies is in Barre, Vermont, in the northeastern United States. It is a center devoted to Buddhist study and practice, and this retreat is one of its residential programs, meaning participants stay at the center for the duration.
Before You Go
This is a residential program, so plan to be on site for the whole retreat. The path of emptiness is a subtle area of Buddhist practice, and the retreat suits people who already have some footing in meditation and are curious about insight into self and world.
