A woman sits in a pool of afternoon light and tells a story about walking down a street with her head hanging low. She was deeply depressed. Then a young man with blonde curls noticed her, bent down until he could find her gaze, and pressed into her hand a small card bearing a message from Meher Baba: "Don't worry, be happy." The moment stuck with her for decades. It is the kind of detail that, in a longer conversation, tells you more about a person than any list of credentials. That scene opens a 52-minute video in which Susan Murray, a singing bowl sound healer and holistic wellness mentor who recently turned 80, talks with her younger colleague and friend Prema Gaia about a path she describes as roughly sixty years long. Its real subject is how a spiritual life gets built, one unglamorous step at a time, and what it looks like when the person building it decides the most useful thing she can do is hand the tools to someone else.

How Does Spiritual Awakening Actually Begin?

Murray's answer to the first question is refreshingly undramatic. Asked whether her awakening was a single satori or something gradual, she said it was "very gradual," and she located its origin in her mother. Her mother was spiritually oriented and passed along practices that had helped her. The core of it, Murray said, was simple: "just cultivating trust that the universe is a supportive place," and that if we align ourselves with spirit to whatever degree we can, we will receive what we need.

The first concrete evidence came in an unexpected form. As a young girl facing her first period and its cramps, Murray was handed a copy of Mary Baker Eddy's Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, a book she had never read. The cramps went away. "Oh, this works," she recalled, calling it perhaps the most stunning thing that had happened to her up to that point. [0:108]

What matters here is not the specific doctrine but the method. A child was given a text, tried it on a lived problem, and noticed a result. That is a practitioner's logic, and it runs through everything Murray describes afterward. Practice is tested against experience. Nothing is taken on faith alone.

What Did Carlos Castaneda Teach About Stupid Moods?

The reading life that followed was omnivorous. In her freshman year of college she discovered the Shambhala Bookstore on Telegraph Avenue and, as she put it, "started perusing the bookshelves." She admits that for years it all felt distant. "It took me many years to realize that it wasn't just something to read about, it was something to live," she said. [0:213]

The turn came with Carlos Castaneda. Murray describes a discouraged day when a thought arrived with the force of an epiphany: if she was this unhappy, she was probably believing something that wasn't true. She had no idea what to keep and what to throw out, so she decided to discard anything she could identify. She gave up her apartment and began meeting people differently, living more simply.

The line that really landed came from the teacher character in Castaneda's books, who tells the author that a spiritual warrior must be prepared to die at any moment. Then comes the question that stopped Murray cold: "You don't want to die in some stupid mood, do you?" [0:310] "No," she recalled answering herself. "I'm tired of my stupid moods. I don't want to die in a stupid mood."

There is a serious lesson buried in the humor of that phrase. It reframes mood not as weather that happens to you but as a habit that can be noticed, examined and gradually exited. Murray's entire later practice is organized around this idea: learning to recognize a stupid move quickly, and to get out of it more quickly still.

Why Did Altered States and Meditation Matter in the Bay Area?

Murray is candid about the setting. Living in the Bay Area in the 1960s and 1970s meant living amid the flower children, the hippie movement, and a culture fascinated with altered consciousness. "That was what seemed to me the easiest way to change my point of view was to change my consciousness," she said. She explored altered states, and she describes this period not as a shortcut but as an apprenticeship in self-knowledge.

The turn toward discipline arrived through a friend. A young woman with striking red-gold hair, dressed in indigenous clothing and fond of travel, told Murray about Transcendental Meditation. Murray got initiated. "That was also probably the most stabilizing thing I had done up until that point," she said, noting the value of meditating regularly. She later lived in a house full of meditators, and the group attended a teacher training with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Humboldt, in Northern California, which she called mind-blowing.

The sequence she describes is worth noticing. Experimentation came first, then a regular, daily container. Murray does not romanticize either phase. She frames the whole thing as "a series of many many many many, probably hundreds or thousands of little steps."

What Role Does Plant Medicine and Ceremony Play?

When Gaia asked about sacred plant medicine, and how early experiences gave way to more intentional, containerized ceremony, Murray's answer was about people more than substances. There were not many personalities to follow, she said, but there were encounters. The Meher Baba card was one. Another was the teacher's question about dying in a stupid mood. In each case a single well-timed message did more than a library. [0:554]

The conversation also moves into territory about shame and vulnerability. Murray describes processing shame and the freedom that came from being witnessed. She says she could have "literally die[d] of shame" in certain moments, and that being in the presence of someone else who could co-regulate her nervous system was one of the most important experiences of her life. [0:857] [0:950] That observation, that healing often needs another regulated human in the room, is the hinge on which her later emphasis on group practice turns.

What Are the Grounding Tools Murray Uses Now?

Murray's current learning centers on the energy school associated with Lynda Caesara, which she is studying through three classes, one with Caesara and two with one of her students. Her description of why she keeps learning is blunt: "I have just become sort of a junkie for learning techniques which help me feel stable and grounded and allow me to be more helpful." [0:1629]

The session that Gaia built around this conversation includes two live practices, and the transcript preserves enough of them to show their logic. The first is a fiber-tying exercise. Murray describes "these are our attention fibers," and talks about how attention is gathered, closed and brought back, in a way that she frames as creating safety and coherence. The exercise draws on Caesara's meditations, one of which involves a phrase about hands held together that Murray says has stayed with her. [0:1168] [0:1541]

The second is a full energetic centering meditation. Excerpts in the transcript guide the listener through the neck, down through the rib cage, into the bones, and then up toward the space overhead, with attention to filling the heart and extending one's essence into the surrounding field. If you have never tried a body-first grounding practice, the structure is familiar to many traditions: you start with physical sensation, then widen attention outward, then return it to the body. Murray's emphasis is on daily repetition. The practice is meant to be done again and again, not once for a feeling of relief.

Murray's view of these tools is practical. They are not the end of the path. As she puts it, she is "still gathering tools," and her current work is organized around sharing what helped her when she was in distress. Describing the people she meets who are suffering in ways she recognizes, she said, "I want to share with them the tools that I have learned." [0:506] Her sense of purpose emerged from her own struggle, and it has become "probably the most fulfilling part of my life."

Why Does Late Blooming Matter?

Near the end of the discussion, Murray laughed at her own trajectory. Sagittarians, she noted, tend to be late bloomers. She turned 80 in December and hopes for another decade or two, if her health holds. Her life suggests that the late bloom is not a delay but a compounding. The tools accumulate, the stupid moods become easier to spot, and the work shifts from self-repair toward service.

That is the real arc of this video, and it is more useful than any single technique. A girl given a book for cramps grew into a seeker who tried everything, learned to discard and to keep, and eventually built a daily discipline that now supports others. The lesson is not that you need to follow Murray's exact path. It is that the path is made of small steps, tested against life, and shared when they work.

Where to go from here

If this conversation resonated, start small. Pick one practice and do it daily for a month rather than sampling ten. Notice when you are in a stupid mood, and ask whether you are believing something that is not true, the question that began Murray's own turn. Find at least one person who can co-regulate with you, since her account suggests that witnessed vulnerability does much of the healing work. Then watch the full video, including the two live practices, and let the centering meditation be the start of a routine rather than a single experience. The most honest takeaway from Susan Murray's six decades is that the tools matter, but the daily return to them matters more.

[0:00] I'm so very excited for our call today.

[0:03] I have been looking forward to this call

[0:06] for quite some time as we have one of my

[0:09] dearest mentors, elders, most beloved

[0:13] soul sisters, and one of the wisest

[0:16] women that I know, who's also one of the

[0:18] most humble women that I know. And her

[0:20] name is Susan Murray.

[0:22] Susan has been on a path of

[0:26] consciousness evolution, on a path of

[0:28] awakening,

[0:30] studying healing modalities, meditation,

[0:34] yoga,

[0:35] biofeedback, the Alexander technique,

[0:38] shamanism,

[0:40] um so many incredible modalities,

[0:43] singing bowls, plant spirit medicine,

[0:46] and also has been initiated in the

[0:48] Yoruba tradition, which she holds very

[0:50] dear and sacred to her heart. And she's

[0:54] been on this path for about 60 years

[0:56] now,

[0:58] which is just absolutely incredible. I

[1:02] truly feel that Susan is

[1:04] like a national treasure, one of those

[1:06] gems of wisdom,

[1:09] and benevolence, kindness, and insight

[1:14] that is is just such an honor to have

[1:17] Susan here with us today. Her work in

[1:19] the world is as a singing bowl sound

[1:22] healer, also a holistic wellness mentor,

[1:26] and a ceremony facilitator among many

[1:29] other hats that she wears. It is my deep

[1:32] honor and privilege to introduce beloved

[1:36] Susan Murray. The warmest welcome to

[1:38] you, Susan. I'm so happy to have you

[1:40] here.

[1:40] >> Thank you, Prema.

[1:43] >> So, Susan, I would love to begin by

[1:45] hearing about your spiritual awakening.

[1:48] What was that like for you? Was it sort

[1:51] of something that happened in one major

[1:54] satori moment? Was it something that

[1:56] happened over time? Was it a radical

[1:59] awakening or a gradual? I'm curious to

[2:01] hear how that was for you and around

[2:03] what age did that start happening?

[2:06] >> With me it was very gradual.

[2:09] I was fortunate to have

[2:12] a mother who was very spiritually

[2:15] oriented. So she introduced me to some

[2:19] practices that she had found helpful,

[2:21] which was really just trust. If you were

[2:24] to name it anything, just cultivating

[2:27] trust that

[2:29] the universe is a supportive place.

[2:35] And that

[2:37] if we can align ourselves with

[2:41] to whatever degree with spirit, then we

[2:44] will receive what we need. She

[2:47] I remember when I had my first period

[2:49] and I had

[2:51] cramps. I didn't know what to do with

[2:53] them. She gave me a copy of Mary Baker

[2:55] Eddy's Science and Health with Key to

[2:58] the Scriptures, which I had never read

[3:00] before. I suddenly realized that my

[3:02] cramps had disappeared and that was I

[3:05] think maybe the most stunning

[3:07] thing like

[3:09] oh, this works.

[3:11] It was It was a surprise. So I was young

[3:15] at the time. I was always drawn to

[3:17] stories that were uplifting or stories

[3:20] about enlightened masters or things of

[3:22] that degree, but I didn't really run

[3:23] into that till

[3:25] I was in my freshman year of college and

[3:27] I discovered Shambhala Bookstore, which

[3:30] was down the street on Telegraph Avenue

[3:33] and started perusing the bookshelves and

[3:37] found some fascinating stories in there.

[3:40] But still it all felt very far away from

[3:43] me. I think it took me many years to

[3:45] realize that

[3:48] it wasn't just something to read about,

[3:51] it was something to

[3:53] to live.

[3:55] So it took me a long time before I began

[3:57] to understand some more of the elements

[4:00] of that. So I think along the way I was

[4:02] influenced by a lot of things that I

[4:04] read.

[4:06] Pretty much anything that I read I found

[4:08] a message in. I found some kind of a

[4:10] lesson in.

[4:13] But I think it was when I started

[4:15] reading Carlos Castaneda for the first

[4:17] time

[4:19] I had had an an epiphany one day when I

[4:22] was feeling very discouraged.

[4:25] And it occurred to me that

[4:27] if I was this unhappy, I was probably

[4:30] believing something that wasn't true.

[4:33] And I had no idea what to throw out and

[4:37] what to retain. And at that time I felt

[4:39] so lost and hopeless that

[4:42] I figured I could throw out anything I

[4:44] could identify.

[4:46] And I I basically did a a dropout thing

[4:50] in that

[4:50] >> [laughter]

[4:51] >> that time. I gave up my apartment and

[4:54] I I met people in a completely different

[4:57] way than I ever had before and started

[4:59] just living in it in a different way, a

[5:01] simpler way. And

[5:03] reading Castaneda

[5:05] the thing that really impacted me first

[5:08] was

[5:10] Carlos's teacher saying to him

[5:12] that we are spiritual warriors if we

[5:15] choose to be. And a spiritual warrior

[5:17] needs to be prepared to die at any

[5:19] moment. You never know which moment will

[5:22] be your last.

[5:24] And he asked Carlos, he said, "You don't

[5:25] want to die in some stupid mood, do

[5:28] you?"

[5:30] And that just pulled me up short. It was

[5:32] like, "No.

[5:34] I'm tired of my stupid moods. I don't

[5:36] want to die in a stupid mood." So,

[5:40] I think I began exploring more. And I

[5:42] think, you know, when you are living in

[5:44] the Bay Area in the

[5:46] 60s and 70s

[5:49] >> [laughter]

[5:49] >> there was the flower children, the

[5:51] hippie movement, there was altered

[5:54] consciousness. So, that was

[5:57] what seemed to me the easiest way to

[5:59] change my point of view was to change my

[6:02] consciousness. So,

[6:04] I did a lot of exploration of altered

[6:06] states at the time.

[6:08] And just gradually grew and learned and

[6:11] learned more about myself and learned

[6:14] more about avoiding stupids

[6:16] stupid moves, learning more about how to

[6:19] more quickly get out of stupid moves.

[6:24] And

[6:25] there were lots of things that came to

[6:28] me during that time. I

[6:30] I'm had I met a a magical young woman

[6:34] who had this

[6:35] golden red hair that was out to about

[6:38] here, just all curls, and she was so

[6:41] exotic. She dressed in these beautiful

[6:44] indigenous clothes and she had

[6:46] adventures and she went places and

[6:49] she told me about um transcendental

[6:51] meditations.

[6:53] So, of course I had to get initiated.

[6:56] And that was also

[6:59] probably the most stabilizing thing I

[7:01] had done up until that point.

[7:04] When meditating regularly and

[7:08] then I ended up living in a house with a

[7:10] bunch of meditators and we all went to a

[7:12] teacher training with Maharishi

[7:15] in Humboldt, um Northern California.

[7:18] And that was mind-blowing. That was

[7:21] So, it was just a series of

[7:24] steps like that. A series of many many

[7:27] many many, probably hundreds or

[7:30] thousands of little steps.

[7:33] And I feel like I'm still on that path.

[7:35] I'm still

[7:36] gathering tools, um

[7:39] my most recent acquisitions are through

[7:41] the energy school that Linda Cesar

[7:44] started. I'm currently in the three

[7:46] classes, one with her and two with one

[7:48] of her students.

[7:50] But I just have become sort of a junkie

[7:53] for

[7:54] learning techniques which help me feel

[7:57] stable and grounded and

[8:00] allow me to be more

[8:03] more helpful.

[8:05] I think that given the amount of

[8:07] distress I experienced when I was

[8:10] younger,

[8:11] sharing what helped me has probably

[8:14] become my most important um

[8:17] driving force.

[8:19] When I meet people who

[8:21] are suffering in a way that I recognize

[8:24] and understand, I want to share with

[8:26] them the tools that I have learned.

[8:29] And I guess that's really what my life

[8:31] is is centered around now.

[8:35] Which

[8:37] is probably the most fulfilling part of

[8:39] my life.

[8:42] They say Sagittarius is we tend to be

[8:45] late bloomers, so

[8:46] there's my my late blooming.

[8:51] >> [gasps and sighs]

[8:52] >> So I just turned 80 in December, so I've

[8:55] got I figure

[8:57] hopefully another good 10, maybe 20

[8:59] years

[9:01] if I maintain my health.

[9:05] >> Amazing. Uh

[9:07] I just

[9:08] >> that's the that was the trajectory.

[9:10] >> I'm curious with regards to your journey

[9:13] with sacred [snorts] medicine, plant

[9:14] spirit medicine as a tool to help expand

[9:17] your consciousness. Who were some of the

[9:19] early voices back in the '70s that you

[9:22] were inspired by

[9:24] uh and how did that evolve over time

[9:26] into more of a very intentional,

[9:29] ceremonial, and containerized experience

[9:31] that ultimately can produce much deeper

[9:35] healing results when held in that sacred

[9:37] way?

[9:37] >> There weren't so many personalities

[9:40] really. I and I'm sure there were things

[9:42] I read, things people I bumped into. I

[9:45] mean, experiences here and there. I

[9:48] I was fortunate to have some amazing

[9:50] experiences.

[9:52] I once met um

[9:55] uh no if

[9:56] if Meher Baba means that name means

[9:59] anything to any of you.

[10:01] He was a Sufi mystic um who didn't speak

[10:05] for over 40 years.

[10:08] Um that don't worry, be happy song of

[10:11] Bobby McFerrin's I think was inspired by

[10:14] him.

[10:16] But one day when I was extremely

[10:18] depressed, I was trudging down the

[10:20] street with my head hanging down and

[10:22] suddenly I saw this little

[10:25] bright smile looking up at me like that.

[10:27] This

[10:29] blonde curly haired young man had

[10:32] noticed me and he noticed my expression

[10:36] and he bent down until he found my gaze

[10:39] and he handed me

[10:41] this little card of Meher Baba's that

[10:43] said, "Don't worry, be happy."

[10:47] I was so stunned in that moment

[10:50] by this beautiful smile and the

[10:52] simplicity of his gesture that it

[10:57] it inspired me to start reading Meher

[10:59] Baba's things and along the way I met

[11:02] some people who had studied had been to

[11:05] his

[11:06] his ashram and had studied there

[11:10] and took me to meet his cousin

[11:13] and in a reception line afterwards that

[11:16] I don't know why I was in it but I felt

[11:18] like I had to go by and shake his hand.

[11:22] He embraced me and it sent me into an

[11:25] altered state that I'd never experienced

[11:27] before.

[11:29] I think he just

[11:31] he did he he zapped me

[11:34] >> [laughter]

[11:34] >> some way

[11:35] and it just took me into this cosmic

[11:38] space that I can't even describe. I was

[11:41] like floating

[11:43] for a while. It took me a while to come

[11:45] back

[11:46] down but I've never forgotten that

[11:49] feeling. So that felt like an initiation

[11:51] of sorts.

[11:53] So there there were things of that

[11:55] nature like momentary things.

[11:57] But probably as much as anything it was

[12:00] the music of the time.

[12:02] When I would listen to music especially

[12:05] in an altered state it would just

[12:10] expand my expand me in ways that I

[12:13] couldn't even put words to, but it was

[12:15] like an upgrade to my nervous system.

[12:19] I think I was collecting upgrades to my

[12:20] nervous system

[12:23] all the way along. I think it was when I

[12:25] first joined a community of intentional

[12:31] working together intentionally with with

[12:33] plant medicine.

[12:35] Um that was when things really took off

[12:39] and then

[12:40] there were ideas introduced and

[12:44] along the way I ended up getting into a

[12:46] formal training program.

[12:49] And there is a formal methodology which

[12:51] doesn't to me really

[12:53] stand It does stand alone. I mean, you

[12:55] don't even need plant medicine to use

[12:57] it, but it's really just describing a

[12:59] way of being.

[13:01] And I think just little by little

[13:04] the pieces began to fall into place for

[13:06] me of how I could

[13:12] like chart a course through through

[13:14] this. I never anticipated

[13:16] being a facilitator. It just sort of

[13:19] happened because

[13:21] I was drawn that way

[13:23] and I allowed myself to be drawn that

[13:25] way.

[13:27] Which I suppose that was one of my

[13:28] favorite Rumi poems is about allowing

[13:31] yourself to be drawn

[13:34] where your heart's pulling you, right?

[13:36] >> I'm curious if you could share with us

[13:38] one of the most peak awakening or

[13:40] healing experiences that you've had

[13:42] along your journey?

[13:43] >> You know, one of them might be

[13:46] I asked a friend who had been

[13:49] in training some years ago with um

[13:53] the teacher that I've been with

[13:55] for quite some time now.

[13:58] If she would start a women's group and I

[14:01] invited my closest girlfriends at the

[14:03] time, so there were like four of us. We

[14:06] were all talking together and something

[14:08] came up

[14:10] that triggered this enormous shame in me

[14:14] where I felt like I would die of shame,

[14:17] literally die of shame. It was so

[14:19] intense.

[14:22] But there was no escaping from it. I had

[14:24] to sit with it, and I was witnessed

[14:27] lovingly by people who I trusted deeply,

[14:31] and I was held in that space until

[14:35] that wave of shame passed through me,

[14:38] and I realized I hadn't died.

[14:42] I would have loved the earth to open up

[14:43] and swallow me in that moment because

[14:45] the shame was so enormous and so

[14:49] debilitating.

[14:51] I didn't even remember what it was about

[14:53] at the time, but it didn't matter. It

[14:55] was the experience.

[14:58] And letting it

[15:00] fully process in my body, letting it

[15:02] move through me, and surviving it, and

[15:06] feeling freedom afterwards.

[15:09] That was probably one of the most

[15:10] important moments for me.

[15:13] >> I love that story. I've had some

[15:15] definitely had some similar experiences

[15:17] myself, and just so incredibly

[15:20] liberating, although

[15:22] terrifying.

[15:23] >> Like terrifying.

[15:24] >> Nothing short of like

[15:25] full terror in the moment. And that's,

[15:28] you know, the intensity of that terror

[15:31] is like a portal to unlock that much

[15:34] more

[15:35] freedom

[15:36] >> [sighs and gasps]

[15:36] >> and liberation the other side, and

[15:39] comfort with oneself.

[15:41] >> Yes, that was the beginning of realizing

[15:44] that I could

[15:45] actually find comfort within,

[15:48] rather than needing it through the

[15:50] presence of somebody else to coregulate

[15:53] with.

[15:54] Then I realized I could

[15:58] be self-sufficient in that regard. I

[16:00] mean, it it's I'm still working on

[16:02] skills in that in that area, but I'm

[16:05] doing much better with it now.

[16:08] And actually reaching to the earth if I

[16:11] am feeling

[16:12] really off balance and really

[16:14] distressed, which occasionally happens

[16:16] in the middle of the night, you know,

[16:17] those you wake up in the night and the

[16:19] thoughts start running and the fears

[16:22] amplify.

[16:24] If I can reach energetically for the

[16:28] earth to support me and feel it coming

[16:31] up

[16:33] within me,

[16:36] everything just chills out.

[16:41] So, I have to

[16:43] Linda's exercises, there's actually a

[16:46] few more elements to what she calls the

[16:48] basics, but

[16:49] >> Yeah.

[16:51] >> We I I

[16:53] I remember I remind myself of the basics

[16:56] as often as I can.

[16:58] Especially if I'm feeling a little bit

[17:00] disregulated, that will be the now the

[17:02] first thing I do.

[17:04] >> Yeah.

[17:05] >> And it's basically reaching to the

[17:06] earth.

[17:08] >> And you don't even need to physically

[17:10] touch it. It's more about learning how

[17:12] to really feel it cuz

[17:14] we are energetic beings, we can actually

[17:16] touch it without physically touching the

[17:18] earth.

[17:18] >> Yeah.

[17:19] >> Mhm.

[17:20] >> Some people are comfortable sinking

[17:22] roots way deep into the earth. That's

[17:24] never been easy for me,

[17:26] but I can feel the earth energy rising

[17:28] up to meet me.

[17:30] That works for me. And there's pretty

[17:33] much any technique that works for

[17:36] any individual is going to get the same

[17:39] result.

[17:40] >> Mhm.

[17:41] >> Just a finding a way that you can make

[17:43] your connection.

[17:45] >> Mhm.

[17:46] >> [clears throat]

[17:46] >> Yeah.

[17:47] >> You're in physical form, the earth is

[17:52] primary.

[17:54] >> Absolutely.

[17:55] >> there's the the universal, there's the

[17:59] the divine masculine energy coming in

[18:02] also, but

[18:04] earth first and then we can bring our

[18:06] own individual

[18:10] sun's ray, as Linda calls it, like

[18:13] each of us has our own attunement with

[18:16] the sun and with the universe and

[18:18] bringing that energy down.

[18:20] She says bringing it down the back body.

[18:24] >> Mhm.

[18:24] >> Down into the root chakra.

[18:26] Bringing the earth energy up to the root

[18:28] chakra, bringing the

[18:30] your own and unique sun's ray down the

[18:32] back body into the root chakra and

[18:35] letting them blend there.

[18:37] And then bringing that energy up

[18:40] into the second, third, fourth, etc.

[18:42] chakras that way is a wonderful practice

[18:44] as well.

[18:46] >> Mhm.

[18:47] >> We're just nourishing and aligning and

[18:49] charging our chakras so that they are

[18:54] optimal, optimally aligned, optimally

[18:57] >> restored or refilled.

[18:59] >> Yes.

[18:59] >> Replenished.

[19:00] >> So that they can all do their jobs.

[19:03] >> Yeah.

[19:03] >> Sometimes our attention goes out. It can

[19:06] go out from any of our chakras, going

[19:08] out with curiosity.

[19:11] But it's easy to um lose our essence

[19:13] that way if we're not containing it.

[19:17] >> Can you talk about tying tying the

[19:19] fibers and how that works?

[19:21] >> Yeah.

[19:23] Yeah, um

[19:25] Linda talks about

[19:28] Well, these are our attention fibers.

[19:30] They can come from any of the seven body

[19:33] chakras, but they primarily come from

[19:36] the belly region and more the third

[19:39] chakra, which is our interaction with

[19:41] the world.

[19:43] And so she

[19:45] one of the exercises is to imagining

[19:51] two fibers coming out from our belly

[19:54] and taking them and tying like a half

[19:57] knot snug against the body.

[20:00] So this is

[20:02] kind of locking our attention inside our

[20:05] body.

[20:06] >> Mhm.

[20:07] >> Because many of us tend to put our

[20:09] attention into other people's bodies,

[20:11] feel other people's feelings.

[20:14] And without even realizing it, it's a

[20:16] safety mechanism. If we're sure of what

[20:19] somebody else

[20:20] If we're sure somebody else is

[20:21] comfortable, then we can feel safer.

[20:24] Some Some people, that's a very strong

[20:26] pattern in

[20:29] But, for anybody, tying the fibers in a

[20:31] half knot and then stretching them out

[20:34] in your mind's eye as far as you can,

[20:36] like out to your auric edge, and

[20:38] sweeping them around,

[20:40] imagining them coming through the back

[20:42] of your body and out your belly again,

[20:45] and then tying a square knot.

[20:47] Like you were tying your

[20:51] If you were um in martial arts, tying

[20:53] your belt in front of your belly. And

[20:55] this is

[20:57] your

[20:58] describing the area of your auric field,

[21:02] and you're

[21:03] closing your attention behind

[21:05] in your body, so that your attention is

[21:08] reminded to be in the body and within

[21:12] the auric field, not extending beyond

[21:14] there.

[21:16] So, I find whenever I start feeling

[21:19] somebody else's feelings, I just do a

[21:22] quick imaginary tying off the fibers to

[21:24] bring my attention

[21:26] back to how I feel,

[21:29] rather than getting lost in how somebody

[21:30] else is feeling.

[21:36] >> So,

[21:37] >> That's a handy little practice,

[21:38] especially for people who tend to be

[21:40] empathic.

[21:42] >> Yeah, so helpful.

[21:44] And especially also for people who had

[21:46] who were raised in environments where

[21:48] they needed to send their fibers out to

[21:51] create safety and coherence in in in

[21:54] stable, disregulated environment. It's

[21:57] like some of us

[21:58] got trained, basically, to you know, to

[22:01] create safety

[22:02] >> Exactly.

[22:02] >> with the fibers out a lot, and got

[22:05] really good at it. And so, this is

[22:07] actually an undoing. It sounds like a

[22:09] lot of Linda's practices are an undoing

[22:11] of early childhood

[22:14] adaptations.

[22:15] >> Exactly.

[22:17] >> survival strategies. Um what are some of

[22:19] the other ones practices and tools that

[22:22] you have found that undo unconscious

[22:27] adaptations that you may not have

[22:29] realized that you had.

[22:30] >> I don't know if I have a lot of

[22:32] techniques I've developed. I'm just

[22:35] >> Maybe the me not me?

[22:36] >> The me not me is very important. Yeah,

[22:39] within your space being the only one,

[22:43] but I think also

[22:46] I have noticed that when I get anxious

[22:50] that's almost

[22:52] almost I mean there's seldom a saber a

[22:54] saber-tooth tiger around the corner,

[22:56] right?

[22:57] When I feel anxious

[22:59] or unhappy or

[23:02] but mainly anxious

[23:04] that's usually that something's

[23:05] operating that's not my truth.

[23:10] It's something that has been introduced

[23:12] like I should be worrying about that or

[23:14] I should think about that. It's not

[23:15] actually happening.

[23:17] It might not have anything to do with me

[23:19] at all.

[23:20] But it's some automatic response and

[23:23] when I so when I feel

[23:26] anxious

[23:27] that's when I start looking at

[23:30] what am I

[23:31] what am I believing right now? What am I

[23:33] basing my behavior on? What am I making

[23:35] my choices based on?

[23:38] Is it

[23:39] what I know to be true or is it

[23:41] something that is

[23:43] causing static in my field?

[23:47] That was a stunning realization when I

[23:49] recognized that just feeling

[23:52] bad is a good indicator of something is

[23:55] really

[23:58] off-center.

[24:04] When I'm aligned, I never feel bad.

[24:07] >> Right. Right. And the amazing thing is

[24:10] having tools that are effective to bring

[24:12] you back into being aligned so that it's

[24:14] like it's actually becomes a gift. Like

[24:18] when you when you notice that you're not

[24:21] feeling well, it's actually a blessing

[24:24] because it's showing you something's not

[24:26] in alignment with your truth.

[24:28] And you're you know, your intention for

[24:31] your life and your soul path. Something

[24:33] is off.

[24:34] And so it's actually a blessing cuz it's

[24:36] like a knock knock. And when you have

[24:37] the tools, it's like, "Okay, I know what

[24:39] to do to come back now."

[24:41] >> Exactly. And just bringing my attention

[24:44] back into my body and to my breath, that

[24:47] alone

[24:48] without any

[24:50] any more bells and whistles, that enough

[24:52] that alone is enough to get me started

[24:56] back into feeling centered.

[24:58] >> Mhm.

[24:59] >> Just feeling the breath.

[25:02] >> Mhm.

[25:03] >> Like just when you have when we gather

[25:06] the way you guide us, that is enormously

[25:09] helpful.

[25:10] >> Yeah.

[25:11] >> And your beautiful meditations,

[25:14] here we have this treasure trove.

[25:17] >> Mhm.

[25:18] >> Or sometimes just listening to some

[25:19] really uplifting piece of music.

[25:21] >> Mhm.

[25:22] >> Or going outside and looking at the sky

[25:25] or the trees, the way the light shines

[25:27] off the leaves or listening to birdsong.

[25:31] Nature, all of these things are so

[25:35] centering. We just have to remember to

[25:37] do it.

[25:39] >> Absolutely. Absolutely. I heard in one

[25:41] of Linda's meditations the phrase

[25:43] doubt shout to fill your field or

[25:45] something.

[25:46] >> Yes. Doubt, d o u b t, it's to dispel

[25:49] doubt.

[25:50] >> Okay.

[25:51] >> Yes.

[25:53] Yeah, that's actually very simple. You

[25:55] just um I like to do it standing up. Get

[25:58] this chair out of the way.

[26:00] Um

[26:01] and it's just I grounding yourself,

[26:04] centering yourself,

[26:06] doing the basics.

[26:07] You know, you're grounded, you're

[26:09] centered, you feel the earth energy

[26:10] rising up.

[26:13] And then saying your name inside your

[26:15] space and gathering your essence

[26:19] overhead.

[26:21] My hands are together here. You can't

[26:23] really see that, but bringing it

[26:24] overhead.

[26:26] You're breathing in as you breathe your

[26:28] essence in.

[26:30] And then bringing your down through the

[26:33] central core of your body and then going

[26:37] just expelling it with a gesture like

[26:40] that and a

[26:42] a sound.

[26:44] That is called a doubt shout and it

[26:46] actually really is a very quick way of

[26:51] I'd forgotten about that. Thank you,

[26:52] Prema.

[26:55] >> Why is it called a doubt shout? Is it to

[26:57] send out any

[26:58] >> You remove doubt from your body. You're

[27:01] You're pulling your essence in and

[27:03] you're sending out anything that doesn't

[27:05] match your essence.

[27:09] >> These tools These tools are golden.

[27:12] >> Yeah.

[27:13] >> I love it. Mm.

[27:15] >> We do that at the beginning and end of

[27:18] ceremonies when we have ceremonies in

[27:20] class and we have ceremonies

[27:23] to claim certain attributes of something

[27:25] we've been studying for the previous

[27:27] month. But, you can do it whenever

[27:28] you're feeling anxious, too.

[27:31] >> Mhm.

[27:32] >> You can do it whenever.

[27:33] >> So, I've had the blessing of knowing you

[27:35] for 13 years now and I have noticed that

[27:40] since you've been doing this work with

[27:41] Linda Cesara, it just feels like

[27:44] your ability to teach and to transmit um

[27:48] has come even more stronger online. I'm

[27:51] wondering what

[27:54] what are some of the main things that

[27:57] you've learned that have been the most

[27:59] transformational in terms of

[28:02] really stepping into more

[28:05] uh more ability to thrive in you know,

[28:08] in your in your day-to-day life and also

[28:11] in teaching and sharing and holding

[28:13] space for others.

[28:14] >> I have ne- never felt like a very

[28:16] grounded person most of my life.

[28:19] I was kind of floaty. I tended to leave

[28:22] my body when I'd get anxious. I wouldn't

[28:25] My attention wouldn't stay in my body.

[28:28] And I tend to be more concerned about

[28:31] how other people are feeling.

[28:33] So, I was always leaving myself. So, I

[28:35] think this

[28:37] multi

[28:38] times a day practice of refreshing my

[28:42] basics

[28:44] over a period, it's been 3 and 1/2 years

[28:46] now,

[28:47] has made a big difference to my ability

[28:50] to stay

[28:52] present, to stay grounded.

[28:55] And also recognizing how wobbly

[28:59] I mean, I always knew I got really

[29:01] wobbly, but

[29:02] when my um confidence would just vanish

[29:06] and I would be so shaky that I wouldn't

[29:08] be able to speak with confidence.

[29:11] Um

[29:12] I don't know if if anybody if you you

[29:15] two particularly have had that problem,

[29:18] but for me it was

[29:20] really an extreme sort of condition for

[29:23] a lot of my life.

[29:25] And so,

[29:27] developing more of a sense of core

[29:29] through these practices of like who I am

[29:32] and what my

[29:33] my positive qualities are.

[29:36] Um

[29:37] just reminding myself of that

[29:41] in some way

[29:43] and learning to deal with the doubts

[29:46] when they would come in, when the

[29:48] negative voices would start to get

[29:50] really loud,

[29:52] I'm learning to say

[29:55] no to them. I mean, it's almost that

[29:57] simple. I'm just learning to say no to

[29:59] them. Like, no, I'm not going to go down

[30:01] that path right now. There's no there's

[30:03] no value in it.

[30:05] >> [gasps]

[30:05] >> It's only going to make me feel weak.

[30:07] It's not going to produce any safety

[30:10] whatsoever. It's just going to make

[30:12] things harder.

[30:14] So, I think I'm just more

[30:19] more present. I I tend to get lost in

[30:22] the self-doubt much less often.

[30:24] >> Can you extrapolate a little bit about

[30:28] this notion that um that we as souls get

[30:33] to tend to our own energy, our own aura,

[30:36] and our own dream for our lives. How you

[30:38] would describe that, that we get to

[30:40] focus our energy on our own dream, our

[30:42] own vision, and that that's not actually

[30:46] selfish at all. It's actually in

[30:48] alignment to do so.

[30:50] >> One of the wonderful tools that Linda

[30:53] has taught, um,

[30:55] is making thought form containers.

[30:58] They can be attached to an object or

[31:00] not. It's just but it's based on, um,

[31:04] this is coming from the deer tribe. It's

[31:06] based on

[31:08] what they call the 20 count. It is 20

[31:11] different coherent fields that are

[31:13] present

[31:16] just naturally.

[31:18] It starts off with just no um

[31:21] starts in the east. East, west, south,

[31:23] and north.

[31:24] And then south of center.

[31:27] And each one has an association like

[31:29] grandfather sun in the east.

[31:33] Grandmother earth in the west, sacred

[31:35] plants in the south, and sacred animals

[31:37] in the north, and sacred humans in the

[31:39] south of center.

[31:41] So just calling in those four fields and

[31:44] feeling them. You do them at first, you

[31:46] do them singly. And then after a while

[31:49] when you get familiar, you can do them

[31:51] as a unit. And then there's the cross

[31:53] quarters, the southeast, which is sacred

[31:56] ancestors, the southwest, each of us our

[31:59] own sacred dream. Northwest, the sacred

[32:02] law and our of our book of life. Like

[32:05] what is our path for this lifetime.

[32:08] And then in the northeast is the design

[32:11] and choreography of energy.

[32:14] So and then there's, um, the north of

[32:16] center is like a full measure of

[32:18] intellect. So each of these has

[32:21] like a whole energy associated with it.

[32:23] So just going through that process,

[32:27] um,

[32:28] made me more aware that each of us

[32:33] I mean this is recognized by indigenous

[32:35] people. I'm sure all over the the globe

[32:38] that we each come in with our sacred

[32:41] dream of what we want that

[32:43] according to Michael Newton who's

[32:45] written some books on life between

[32:47] lives. It's a very interesting topic. He

[32:50] had been

[32:52] he was a hypnotherapist who discovered

[32:55] that he was regressing people not just

[32:57] to past lives but to a space between

[32:59] lives and he began mapping that

[33:02] where we decide what is our next lesson

[33:04] we're going to learn and plan

[33:07] where how we want to be born so that we

[33:09] have a chance of learning what we want

[33:11] to learn in in this lifetime. So that

[33:14] idea always appealed to me. Whenever I'd

[33:16] come across it, I would go, "Oh yes."

[33:18] You know, it was I think I I came in

[33:22] already having a feel for that.

[33:25] Um [clears throat] so

[33:28] just being reminded of that. And then

[33:30] there's the higher octave of the first

[33:32] 10 counts of the each one like the

[33:34] higher octave of it.

[33:36] So paying attention to those energies

[33:40] and it's something I do every day now.

[33:42] Um

[33:45] and paying and recognizing that each of

[33:47] us has the same sacred dream. Each will

[33:50] be different but we each have

[33:53] what we came here to do and and our

[33:55] proclivities, what how we want to do it.

[33:58] What we're drawn towards, what we're

[34:01] repelled by, all of these things.

[34:03] Just um

[34:07] I think just being aware of that

[34:11] made it easier for me to pay attention

[34:15] to what is it I'm drawn towards.

[34:20] And really being mindful and then

[34:23] starting to take steps to

[34:25] make it happen. If someone finds himself

[34:28] thinking about something too much

[34:31] more than is helpful, thinking about

[34:34] another person more than is helpful

[34:36] what would you recommend? What tools

[34:39] would you recommend to do? um

[34:43] to really let that go in a healthy way

[34:45] and come back

[34:47] to center.

[34:48] >> I think tying the fibers would be the

[34:50] first step.

[34:52] >> Mhm.

[34:52] >> Just making sure that your energy is

[34:55] grounded and centered.

[34:57] >> Mhm.

[34:57] >> Tying [clears throat] your fibers, I

[34:59] mean, there's all sorts of practices or

[35:01] cutting cords that might be necessary.

[35:03] That it comes down to making choices.

[35:06] >> Yeah.

[35:07] >> Am I going to allow myself to keep

[35:09] codicating in this loop, you know? Am I

[35:11] going to allow myself to keep doing

[35:12] this, or am I going to just

[35:15] make a decision

[35:17] to do something else with my attention.

[35:19] So, if I give my attention something

[35:21] else to do that's constructive,

[35:25] then it's a feeling like I'm building a

[35:26] muscle. I can make a choice. I've got

[35:29] agency.

[35:30] I don't have to listen to the negative

[35:32] voices. I don't have to listen to the

[35:35] scary voices. I don't need to worry

[35:37] about something I can't do anything

[35:40] about. And if I can do something about

[35:42] it, I'm going to be more effective if I

[35:44] keep my energy contained so that I can

[35:47] use all of my energy to be helpful

[35:50] rather than it being pulled off

[35:53] by merging in some way with somebody

[35:55] else.

[35:56] >> And sometimes, not only do we sometimes

[35:59] get distracted on things that we're

[36:01] worried about, but sometimes, like

[36:03] fixating on a person that we're drawn

[36:05] to, it could be even seemingly a

[36:07] positive thing,

[36:08] but ultimately, it's distracting us away

[36:10] from actually being present in our

[36:12] bodies, right?

[36:13] >> Yeah.

[36:14] If you make somebody else the the center

[36:17] of your attention,

[36:19] then

[36:20] where are you?

[36:22] If I make somebody else's Where is my

[36:24] attention? It's not on me. It's not on

[36:26] how I feel. So, I don't

[36:28] know what I need. I don't know how to

[36:30] take care of myself

[36:33] because I've abandoned myself.

[36:38] >> Mhm.

[36:39] >> [clears throat]

[36:39] >> I would love to invite us to do the

[36:41] tying fibers practice together, and just

[36:44] calling to mind or calling to heart

[36:46] something that you've been fixating on,

[36:49] putting a lot of energy out. So, would

[36:51] you be willing to guide us in that

[36:53] practice together so we can actually

[36:55] embody it, Susan?

[36:56] >> Certainly. Um

[36:59] First, just close your eyes for a moment

[37:01] and bring your attention right back into

[37:03] your body.

[37:04] And feel your feet on the ground.

[37:07] Feel your spine.

[37:10] Feel the core of your body.

[37:19] Feel your essence in your bones.

[37:33] And bringing your attention to your

[37:35] belly.

[37:39] Imagining two fibers coming out from

[37:41] your belly.

[37:42] And you might want to just envision

[37:45] yourself brushing them off, cleaning

[37:47] them off from anything that might be

[37:49] sticking to them.

[37:51] And then just making a

[37:53] a half knot against your belly.

[37:56] Against your navel.

[37:59] And then

[38:00] moving the fibers out in front of you,

[38:03] stretching them out

[38:05] to as far as you can reach and sweeping

[38:07] your hands

[38:09] around your auric edge.

[38:11] Tracing your auric edge

[38:14] around to the back of your body.

[38:17] Feeling the space that is yours.

[38:21] That should be inviolate.

[38:23] And then imagining the fibers coming

[38:25] back through your body

[38:28] and tying a square knot

[38:30] in front of your belly.

[38:32] So, your attention

[38:34] is now within your body

[38:38] within your auric field.

[38:41] If you like, you can take the ends of

[38:43] those fibers and you can

[38:45] imagine one of them attached

[38:49] going down into the ground to root you

[38:51] more firmly.

[38:53] You can imagine one wrapping around your

[38:56] core if you feel your core needs

[38:58] strengthening

[38:59] or touching the inside of your auric

[39:02] edge if that is helpful.

[39:05] But just keeping your attention within

[39:07] your personal space

[39:10] saying your name there to feel your

[39:12] essence really strongly.

[39:16] And feeling your stealth and your space

[39:21] filled with your essence and not

[39:26] with that energy not being interfered

[39:28] with by anything that is not yours.

[39:37] And when that feels complete, just

[39:39] bringing your attention back into the

[39:41] room.

[39:48] After a while you get a felt sense of it

[39:50] and it can be very very quick.

[39:52] You can just think to yourself tying tie

[39:55] fibers

[39:56] and

[39:57] it's kind of all falls into place.

[40:00] We've got these complex nervous systems

[40:03] and

[40:04] our neurotransmitters sometimes go crazy

[40:07] and it takes a while for it all to

[40:09] metabolize. We just have to be patient

[40:12] with ourselves when we have

[40:15] an activation of some sort

[40:18] and just allow it to subside and um or

[40:22] and learn from it what we can. Sometimes

[40:24] there's really important information in

[40:26] there.

[40:27] >> Mhm.

[40:28] >> When you practice it daily um

[40:32] or multiple times a day ideally

[40:35] it's a way of staying more present so

[40:37] that the reactive phases are fewer

[40:42] and

[40:44] mhm

[40:45] easier to recover from. I think

[40:47] basically is why it's been so important

[40:49] for me.

[40:51] And it's really just bringing your

[40:54] attention

[40:56] into your body.

[40:58] She starts by saying please attend to

[41:01] your spine.

[41:03] Attend to the bones of your spine, that

[41:05] central core of your body.

[41:09] It might be helpful to close your eyes

[41:11] and just feel your spine in the center

[41:13] of your body.

[41:19] From the base of your skull

[41:21] down through your neck,

[41:24] your abdomen down to the sacrum, to the

[41:26] base of your spine the other end.

[41:33] Just attending

[41:35] to that bony center of your body that

[41:38] supports you and sustains you and allows

[41:40] you to move in

[41:42] so many directions.

[41:48] As you attend to the bones of your

[41:49] spine, you become centered in your body.

[41:59] So, engaging now the bones

[42:02] of your pelvis, moving down to your

[42:05] pelvis, legs and feet.

[42:11] And as you attend to the bones of your

[42:13] pelvis, legs and feet, you become

[42:15] centered in each of your legs.

[42:20] Centered in your spine.

[42:24] Centered in your body.

[42:40] And bringing your attention back to your

[42:42] spine,

[42:43] notice where your rib cage meets your

[42:46] spine in back.

[42:48] And then follow your ribs around to the

[42:50] the in front.

[42:52] moving your attention up

[42:54] to your shoulders, to your clavicles,

[42:59] out to your shoulders and down your

[43:00] arms,

[43:02] wrists and hands.

[43:07] And as you attend to the bones in your

[43:09] arms,

[43:12] you become centered in each of your

[43:13] arms.

[43:19] Centered in your legs,

[43:22] centered in your spine,

[43:25] centered in your body.

[43:34] And as you attend

[43:36] to your essence, the essence of you,

[43:39] that

[43:40] energy, that frequency which makes you

[43:42] unique, attending to that in your bones,

[43:47] then you have core,

[43:49] that sense of who you are.

[43:56] Centered in your arms, centered in your

[43:58] legs, centered in your spine,

[44:03] centered in your core.

[44:14] In truth, you're always centered in your

[44:16] body.

[44:18] But what wanders is our attention.

[44:21] So this is a practice of bringing our

[44:22] attention back into the body,

[44:25] so that when we walk, we feel our feet

[44:28] on the ground,

[44:29] and not just a head moving through

[44:31] space,

[44:34] feeling our body, which is really an

[44:37] antenna for energy.

[44:41] >> [snorts]

[44:46] >> So now engaging your roots from the

[44:48] bottom of your feet down into the earth,

[44:52] and drinking [clears throat] in that

[44:53] nourishing earth energy.

[44:56] Receiving the warm nourishing heart of

[44:59] the earth

[45:00] up into your feet and your ankles and

[45:02] your legs

[45:05] up into your pelvis

[45:08] up into your spine

[45:13] into your arms

[45:15] and up into your neck and your head.

[45:19] All of your body filled with nourishing

[45:21] and stabilizing

[45:23] earth energy.

[45:28] Every cell in your body nourished,

[45:30] supported, and sustained with nourishing

[45:33] earth energy.

[45:43] And attending now to your heart space

[45:47] receiving energy from your insides now

[45:51] from your essence into your heart.

[45:54] Imagining a chalice in the center of

[45:56] your heart and that filling with this

[45:59] beautiful sustaining nourishing

[46:02] stabilizing earth energy.

[46:05] Filling until it begins to overflow

[46:09] nourishing your heart again from within

[46:13] and nourishing your whole body from

[46:15] within.

[46:24] Feeling this cycle now of earth energy

[46:27] moving up through your body and

[46:29] overflowing

[46:30] nourishing you

[46:33] nourishing the space around you

[46:36] but what's really important is the

[46:38] center, your body and your auric field.

[46:42] That's where our attention needs to be.

[46:47] So saying your name silently into your

[46:51] bones, into your

[46:53] essence, into your

[46:55] auric field

[46:58] Feeling your own individual energy

[47:02] filling

[47:03] yourself so completely that there is no

[47:06] room for anything else that might be an

[47:09] influence that you've picked up on the

[47:11] way, but that isn't you,

[47:14] isn't appropriate for you, isn't your

[47:16] essence and your truth.

[47:20] You can delete it. You can ask it to be

[47:24] moved out. You can vacuum it out.

[47:27] Whatever visual helps, you can zap it

[47:29] with your magic wand, whatever you like.

[47:32] I like to just feel my own energy

[47:35] becoming so full that there's simply no

[47:38] space for anything and it's nudged out

[47:41] through the

[47:43] permeable

[47:45] edge of my auric field.

[47:48] So, now bringing your attention to that

[47:50] edge, just roughly arm's length out from

[47:53] your body and a similar distance

[47:54] overhead

[47:56] and below your feet.

[47:58] This space which is your space

[48:01] in which nobody else's energy belongs.

[48:06] So, you can ask it to be returned to the

[48:08] sender or however you like to reclaim

[48:12] that energy, that space for yourself.

[48:16] So, that your thoughts and your dreams

[48:19] and your visions

[48:21] are entirely yours.

[48:29] Anything that doesn't match your essence

[48:32] isn't invited to be gone.

[48:37] Saying your name again and calling

[48:40] yourself home if there's any parts of

[48:42] you that were left

[48:44] anywhere else.

[48:46] Perhaps thinking of somebody else who

[48:49] might be needing help.

[48:52] But your energy does belong with you.

[48:55] You can help them more by filling your

[48:58] own space with your essence

[49:02] and helping them through the wisdom that

[49:04] is enhanced by be

[49:08] being fully in your own essence in your

[49:10] space.

[49:15] Attending to that edge, that intelligent

[49:17] edge and asking it to

[49:20] keep out anything that's not in your

[49:22] highest and best good and only admit

[49:25] what is absolutely in your best

[49:28] interest.

[49:32] And then taking a moment to attend to

[49:34] your chakras,

[49:36] those seven beautiful

[49:38] energy centers, wheels of light that are

[49:42] nestled against your spine from the base

[49:44] of your spine up through the crown of

[49:46] your head.

[49:47] Feeling them in alignment, feeling them

[49:50] balanced,

[49:52] feeling them working together,

[49:54] each in its own domain,

[49:57] to keep you in the best possible state

[50:01] of balance.

[50:07] And once again feeling that flow of

[50:09] energy up from the earth

[50:12] like a toroidal field surrounding your

[50:14] body,

[50:18] nourishing and re-nourishing yourself.

[50:28] And then when you feel ready, bringing

[50:29] your attention back to your skin, maybe

[50:32] touching your skin,

[50:34] saying this is where I live.

[50:36] I am home.

[50:45] Just taking a moment to honor your own

[50:47] sacred dream, your sacred path,

[50:51] your beautiful essence,

[50:54] and your ancestors and helpers that are

[50:57] there always

[50:58] to guide and protect, only needing an

[51:01] invitation.

[51:06] Mhm. And then when you're ready,

[51:08] bringing your attention back into the

[51:10] room.

[51:12] Did that feel good?

[51:17] >> That was amazing and I don't know about

[51:20] anyone else, but I really needed that

[51:22] today.

[51:23] >> [laughter]

[51:25] >> I I did, too.

[51:29] >> I love that so much. So, for those who'd

[51:31] like to get in touch with Susan, the

[51:33] best way online is via her website

[51:36] phoenixsongenergetics.com.

[51:38] That's all one word,

[51:39] phoenixsongenergetics.

[51:42] And thank you so, so much Susan for

[51:44] being here with us today. Such a

[51:47] blessing and such an honor. I will

[51:49] definitely be going back to this

[51:50] recording to review several things that

[51:53] you taught us and so, so grateful to

[51:55] have you with us today.

[51:56] >> Thank you for the invitation.

Murray and host Prema Gaia lead two live practices: a fiber-tying exercise centered on what Murray calls attention fibers, and a full energetic centering meditation. The centering practice moves attention from the neck through the rib cage and bones, then fills the heart and extends outward into the space overhead. Murray emphasizes repeating such practices daily rather than treating them as one-time experiences.
In Murray's retelling, the teacher character tells Castaneda that a spiritual warrior must be prepared to die at any moment, then asks, "You don't want to die in some stupid mood, do you?" Murray said the question pulled her up short and led her to conclude she was tired of her own stupid moods. It framed mood as a habit that could be noticed and changed.
Murray says her awakening was gradual and began with her mother, who was spiritually oriented and taught her to cultivate trust that the universe is supportive. A key early moment came when her mother gave her Mary Baker Eddy's Science and Health during a bout of menstrual cramps, and the cramps disappeared. That experience convinced her that practice could produce real results.
Murray has been on a path of consciousness evolution for about 60 years, according to host Prema Gaia's introduction. Her history includes Transcendental Meditation initiation, a teacher training with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Northern California, and recent study in an energy school associated with Lynda Caesara. Her current work includes singing bowl sound healing, holistic wellness mentoring and ceremony facilitation.
In Murray's usage, a stupid mood is a repeated state of unhappiness or distress that comes from believing something untrue. Her practice has been about learning to recognize these moods quickly and get out of them faster. She credits Castaneda's teacher's question with motivating her to stop tolerating them.
In the conversation, Murray describes processing shame and the freedom she found in being witnessed. She says that being in the presence of another person who can co-regulate her nervous system was one of the most important experiences of her life. This is part of why she values group practice and shared ceremony.
Yes. Murray says she has become something of a junkie for learning techniques that help her feel stable and grounded, and she is currently taking three classes in the energy school associated with Lynda Caesara. She describes herself as still gathering tools and sharing them with people who are suffering.
