Radical Devotion is a meditative music duo that has shared mantras, songs and sound healing since 2008. Their music is described as a sonic meditation and yoga practice, rooted in bhakti yoga, the yoga of devotion and the path of the heart. It draws on the ancient Indian practice of mantra, where silence follows the mantra and the mantra rises out of silence.
Trond Erland Sigvartsen is from Norway and Linda Grahn is from Sweden. They met on a festival stage and began playing together straight away. Both have made music since childhood. Trond has worked for many years with meditative music, yoga, meditation, bodywork and healing. Linda has a background in Swedish folk music, classical singing and herbal medicine, has meditated since childhood, and is a trained Kundalini Yoga teacher. Trond sings and plays guitar, and Linda sings and plays harmonium. They are based just outside Oslo.
Their meditative concerts invite people to sing along or simply listen and rest. No singing skill is needed, since the focus is on what happens when we sing mantra. In their sound healing sessions they work with healing mantras, ancient Tibetan singing bowls, shaman drums and toning, offering a space to rest in the sound and travel inward. They play concerts, yoga events, retreats and festivals. Their recordings include mantras such as the Gayatri Mantra, Om Asatoma, the Prajnaparamita Mantra, Namah Shivaya and the Medicine Buddha Mantra.
Worth Knowing
Radical Devotion is a Norway-based meditative music duo made up of Trond Erland Sigvartsen, from Norway, and Linda Grahn, from Sweden, who have offered mantras, songs and sound healing since 2008. They met on a festival stage and began playing together straight away, and both had been making music since childhood. Trond sings and plays guitar, Linda sings and plays harmonium, and the pair are based just outside Oslo. Their work is best understood as sonic meditation rather than a conventional performance act: a mantra is sung, silence follows it, and the mantra seems to rise back out of that silence. The background behind it is unusually broad, with Trond's many years in meditative music, yoga, bodywork and healing alongside Linda's Swedish folk training, classical singing, herbal medicine and Kundalini Yoga teaching. That mix is why their concerts feel closer to a shared practice than a show, and it is what distinguishes them among devotional music projects.
