Mia Park is a yoga and taiji teacher, actor, cultural producer, professor and hospice nurse based in Chicago. She has taught yoga since 2006 and describes her approach as teaching "from the inside, out": she uses physical postures as a vehicle for internal evolution and as a way to reach our deeper physical, emotional and mental bodies. In her words, that connection is a spiritual practice of self-awareness, and with self-awareness a life of purpose can be lived.
Her classes balance intentional sequencing and conscious breathing with a quieter mind. She specializes in gentle and restorative yoga and in yoga nidra, or yoga sleep. She has studied yoga nidra with many teachers, including Richard Miller (iRest), Uma Dinsmore Tuli, Rolf Solvik, Rod Stryker and Dr. Swami Shankardev Saraswati. She has led yoga nidra teacher trainings since 2014, and her recordings have over 100,000 listens across Insight Timer, YouTube and Spotify.
Mia has thousands of hours of teacher training. She is certified in iRest yoga nidra, Rest and Renew restorative yoga, 500-hour Viniyoga and the 300-hour Darshan system. She is a retired Parayoga instructor and is initiated into the Sri Vidya lineage. Her studies also include breathwork and pranayama, tantra hatha yoga, yoga anatomy, yoga therapy and trauma-informed yoga.
She studies and teaches taiji in the lineage of Yang Cheng Fu with Patrick Kelly, and has studied with him and his senior teachers since 2016. She was raised practicing martial arts. She is a Domestic Violence Advocate who teaches survivors, and she has volunteered teaching prenatal yoga in Cook County jail since 2010. That work was featured on Chicago NBC News. Her enthusiasm, humor and authenticity are part of how she teaches, and she especially enjoys working with private clients and smaller groups.
