Manu Om is a kirtan singer and mantra musician based in Barcelona. On his website he describes the project as beginning in the fall of 2007, when the mantras slowly began to arrive, springing from his love of Bhagavan.
Five years later, after countless songs and the recording of a first demo, A Song to the Guru, new horizons opened and the project took shape as Manu Om. He writes that the path of Bhakti Yoga and a permanent contact with Advaita Vedanta were born within him through Bhagavan, who is also his source of inspiration. In his words, the project belongs to Bhagavan, and above all it carries the bond of love between devotee and master.
His music draws on bhakti yoga, kirtan and satsang, and is meant to be sung together rather than only heard. According to his Insight Timer teacher page, he has travelled widely over more than a decade, with twelve-plus albums, leading call-and-response chanting in which voice, breath and community become a single act of remembrance.
Singing is at the heart of how he speaks about the path: "That you wake up singing, that you practice singing, that you walk singing, that you forgive singing. Sing, sing, sing ... May death find you singing," he writes on his website.
Worth Knowing
Manu Om is a kirtan singer and mantra musician based in Barcelona, Spain, whose project began in the fall of 2007, when, in his own account, mantras slowly began to arrive, springing from his love of Bhagavan. The project took its present name after a first demo, A Song to the Guru, opened new horizons about five years later. According to his Insight Timer teacher page, he has travelled widely over more than a decade and released twelve-plus albums, though the profile data does not list those titles individually. What draws listeners and singers to his work is its insistence that the songs are meant to be sung together rather than only heard, with call-and-response chanting in which voice, breath and community become one act of remembrance. He also works as a yoga teacher, so the same devotional material moves between recordings, gatherings and teaching. Serious followers tend to value whether a song can hold a room, not how polished it sounds, and this project is built around that test. The main caveat is that the public record available here is thin, so detailed press history will need to come from primary sources.
