Julia Torggler is an aerial artist, trainer and yoga teacher based in Essen in the Ruhr region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. She is known for aerial acrobatics (Luftakrobatik), body awareness and movement quality. Her own website describes her as a freelance artist. Her Insight Timer teacher page calls her a dancer, aerial artist, yoga teacher and nature lover.
Aerial acrobatics has been part of her life for many years, as a performer, as a trainer and, in her words, as a researcher looking for new movements, ideas and ways of expression. What fascinates her is the combination of strength, technique, body feeling and creativity. Her aim is not only to teach tricks. She wants people to experience movement, understand it and make it their own. As an artist who works with her body every day, she knows how important it is to keep body, mind and soul strong, flexible and in balance.
For experienced aerial artists and trainers she offers advanced training programs (Aerial Fortbildungsprogramme). They are available as one-to-one coaching or as group programs for three or more participants, for example the trainers of one studio. The programs include online coaching for Aerial Hoop and Silks. They also include a 12-month online mastermind for aerial silks for intermediate level and above, built around 50 tricks and transitions, wraps and creative sequences. A six-month workshop series covers dynamic moves and rolls for intermediate aerial hoop artists. A further course trains teachers to work with children: age-appropriate figures on silk and hoop, lesson structure, mindful handling of children, a complete holiday-program concept and how to build a show with children. It comprises 20 hours of theory and practice and 20 hours of practical work with children. She also gives workshops, including partner acrobatics, and individual one-to-one support. Students from Italy and Germany describe her as someone who helps people see that every body has its own timing and way to reach the same point. A studio owner in Italy says her students liked how clearly she explains and how she helps without insisting. Through the Community Circus Podcast she shares technique tips, insights and conversations with people from the aerial scene. She also performs and develops her own artistic projects, and offers show performances for events, galas and variety productions.
Community Circus is her circus program for children and young people in the Ruhr region, also known as Community Circus NRW. It combines aerial arts, acrobatics, dance and movement. Holiday projects run for several days. Children train on aerial silk and aerial hoop, learn acrobatic elements, move to music and develop small choreographies and presentations. They are suitable for children with and without prior experience. The values behind it are togetherness, courage, creativity and appreciation, so that each child can find their own way and discover their strengths. One parent, whose daughter took part in the Aerial Ferienakademie in Bochum, wrote that every child is taken as they are and supported in their strengths.
Her retreats follow the idea that body work is a form of self-perception. They are not about higher, further, faster, but about being more conscious, present and connected, in the air, on the floor or in silence. The Flow & Fly retreat brings together yoga, aerial hoop, aerial yoga, partner acrobatics, nature, vegan detox cooking and community. It takes place at the Soami Retreat Center in the mountains above Lake Millstatt (Millstättersee) in Austria. The yoga shala there has a wall of windows with a view of the forest and 20 rigging points for aerial yoga silks. Participants have described designing their own week according to how they feel each day, and discovering yoga and rope alongside hoop. Julia also hosts private retreats for communities on request.
Her work is for aerial artists who want to refine technique and body understanding, for studio trainers, for children and teenagers, and for adults who want time with their body. Participants describe leaving with a structured training routine, a better working relationship with their body and new ease.
