Dr Kate Tomas

Dr Kate Tomas is a philosopher and spiritual mentor with over 23 years of experience. She teaches a combination of ancient and modern spiritual practices and rituals that engage the whole person, so that people can build a life of liberation and meaning. Her students are encouraged to explore energy, astrology and spiritual practice through intellectual, felt-sensorial and emotional lenses, without having to set aside their rational minds or critical faculties.

Her path began early. She describes developing strong intuitive abilities as a child, and at 19 she began a spiritual apprenticeship in the Western Esoteric tradition while studying Classics at university. She started by offering tarot readings, drawing a global clientele to her small room above a crystal shop in Glastonbury. Her reputation grew, and she went on to advise multinational brands, from TV networks to hedge funds.

Dissatisfied with the superficiality of much of the spiritual and self-help industry, she pursued a PhD in Philosophy. After five years of study and teaching, she was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy in Theology, with a focus on mysticism and Catholic women mystics. Her Insight Timer page notes that her PhD is from the University of Oxford. She describes the process as a significant initiatory experience.

In 2018 she launched her group mentorship program, The Spiritual Life Upgrade, which offers the core teachings of her tradition. Her teaching rests on the premise that the universe is made of energy and that the human body can work with, shift and redirect it. She also offers online courses, workshops, ceremonies timed to astrological moments, and tarot instruction.

Kate holds that none of us are free until all of us are free, and believes energy work is political. She hopes to make the practices of her tradition as accessible as possible to the people who need them.
