In 1935, there was a meeting between the Indian Saint Anandamayi Ma (MA) and two Yoganandas: the world-renowned Paramhansa Yogananda and Brahmar Gosh a young Bengali woman and devotee of MA whom MA would give the auspicious names “Badama” and “Yogananda” before the meeting. A brief portion of that meeting is preserved in a 65 second video.
In this special webinar honoring MA's birthday, Dr. Martha Libster will share the story behind this moment in spiritual history. She draws on a rare collection of letters between MA and Brahmar Gosh. Dr. Libster demonstrates that MA (as Teacher) and Brahmar Gosh (as Seeker) each played their roles in a lila or play that revealed MA’s nature regarding the important life choice to follow a householder and/or ascetic path. Drawing upon this historical teaching, Dr. Libster discusses the importance of the process of living a spiritual life rather than the destination. Participants will explore how this encounter reveals Anandamayi Ma's subtle guidance and deeper wisdom she conveyed through the lives of her devotees.
This event is part of the Medicine in the Story series through the Choreosophy Institute, where stories from spiritual and historical traditions are explored as vessels of wisdom, reflection, and the art of healing.
