Growing on Insight Timer in 2025: Lessons from a Veteran Teacher

It is the end of 2024, and a guided meditation teacher who has been publishing on Insight Timer since 2016 is sitting down to talk to the teachers who are wondering whether the platform still has room for them. The app has just changed how it splits revenue, moving from an even 50/50 arrangement to 60% for the platform and 40% for teachers, and it has replaced the payment for comments on tracks and courses with a return-rate bonus. Lou Redmond, who says he has logged about 2 million plays and courses with a student base he puts at around 70,000, does not pretend the change is painless. He says he has absorbed a revenue cut of roughly 30 to 35 percent so far. What he offers instead is a set of nine working principles for teachers and meditation creators heading into 2025: think on a decade-long horizon, make fewer and better things, treat return rate as a question worth asking, lean on shorter talks and generous free content, accept that success is never guaranteed, and use retreats, peer groups, and coaching to build a business that does not depend entirely on one app.

What changed on Insight Timer in 2024, and why does it matter?

Redmond is direct about the facts. Insight Timer moved its split to 60% for the platform and 40% for teachers, stopped paying for comments on tracks and courses, and introduced a return-rate bonus, which teachers call RO, tied to how often listeners come back to a track. He is candid that the rules for earning under RO are still unclear, and he says so more than once. He also credits the company for how it rolled the change out: it was staged over several months, the company was transparent about it, and it set up a fund to help teachers through the lost revenue.

His reading of the company's motives is the spine of the whole talk. A platform, he argues, has to think about how it will thrive over the long term, and so do the people who build on it. "Inside Timer thriving in the long term is how we thrive on the app in the long term," he says. That framing is worth sitting with, because it turns a pay cut from a story about a villain into a story about shared incentives. It also explains why his advice keeps returning to time horizons rather than to tactics.

Why should you publish for 2030 instead of 2025?

The first principle is the one Redmond lingers on longest, at around the three-minute mark of the video. Publish, he says, "not as if it's 2025 but imagine that you're publishing it for 2030." His argument rests on a comparison of the economics. He notes that Spotify pays an artist about $3,800 for a million plays, which is less than a cent per play. By his figures, Insight Timer pays meditation artists about 15 cents per play, and he calculates that a million premium plays would come to $157,000. He is careful to say that a million plays is a long way off for most teachers, and that the number is a reason to play a long game, not a promise.

The bigger point is the market itself. Redmond calls the mindfulness and meditation field "still young" and "still budding." Whatever the platform's future, he treats the work of building a catalog as planting seeds that will bear fruit years later. The practical implication is that a track you publish today should be built to still matter when the app's audience is larger and your back catalog has become a library.

Is quality really more important than quantity for meditation courses?

Redmond's second principle came from a complaint he read in one of the app's Facebook groups. A teacher had published two courses in a single month and earned less than the month before. He does not know the full story behind that course, but he is blunt about his first reaction: two courses in a month are probably not good courses. His analogy is a writer. "Imagine someone said I published two books last month," he says. "There's no way those two books can be of deep substance," because writing takes time, heart, energy, and craft.

Crucially, he defines quality in a way that has nothing to do with production polish. "Quality doesn't mean the best edited stuff by the way," he says. Quality means "lived embodied substantial experience," some energy, a transmission, and the gifts and care a teacher brings. He is clear that only the teacher can judge what quality means for their own work. His practical claim is that work you put energy into is work you want to promote, talk about, and share, and that listeners who feel it will tell their friends. Spread, in his account, comes from reaching the right people who then pass the work along by word of mouth, not from getting in front of the largest possible crowd.

How do you optimize for return rate without annoying listeners?

Redmond's third principle is the one he hedges most carefully. At around 7:36 he says you should "consider the return rate" when creating any new track or course, because nobody has a clear answer about what drives it, but the question is worth asking "because it's the reality that we're living in." His suggested exercise is a thought experiment: ask yourself, if I were to optimize for return rate in this track, how would I engage the listener differently?

The obvious answer is to build reasons to come back: a daily practice, a multi-day challenge, a series that unfolds. He warns against overdoing it. If every track says "come back tomorrow," the platform becomes an irritant, and listeners learn to tune it out. He also acknowledges that some successful teachers have told him they change nothing about how they create, and that this is a legitimate choice. His point is not that everyone must chase RO. It is that the question forces you to consider the listener's experience on purpose rather than by accident.

Should you make shorter talks and far more free content?

The fourth and fifth principles are about form and access. Redmond suggests creating shorter talks where you give people something substantial in a small amount of time. He points to a friend whose course, six minutes a day for 88 days, is doing very well, and he says his own short, crafted talks, which he describes as blog-like and inspirational, tend to earn a solid return rate. The real benefit, in his telling, is discovery: many people have come to his courses, or hired him one-on-one, after listening to a short talk.

"Quality doesn't mean the best edited stuff by the way." Lou Redmond, in his December 2024 YouTube video on growing on Insight Timer

On free content, he argues that teachers should publish a great deal of it, and he warns against the teacher who posts only paid material. A free library is how a listener first meets your voice. Redmond's logic is that a person who has spent time with your free work is far more likely to say "I want to take this course by this person" than a stranger who has only seen a sales page. He pairs this with a note about the economics: the number of paid users matters, and free content is how that base grows.

Why isn't success on Insight Timer guaranteed?

The sixth principle, which begins around 13:02 in the video, is a corrective to the fantasy that the right track or the right course will unlock a steady income. Redmond is candid that results vary, and he asks teachers to hold their expectations with some humility. Because he frames the whole talk around the long game, this principle reads less as pessimism than as a reason to keep building rather than to chase a single breakthrough. A business on any platform, he suggests, is the accumulation of many small, honest efforts over time.

What role do retreats, mastermind groups, and coaching play?

The later principles widen the lens beyond the app. Redmond says that the way to build a brand outside Insight Timer is through coaching offers and corporate workshops, which the video description also names. Around 17:27 he takes up the retreat, which he presents as a natural next step for a teacher whose audience already trusts them. He treats it as an experiment to try rather than a guaranteed result, and he encourages teachers to think about a retreat as a way of extending their teaching into people's lives beyond the app.

At around 19:21 he turns to the value of a mastermind group for meditation teachers, wellness coaches, and creative entrepreneurs. The argument is about community: the work of growing a teaching business is lonely, and a group of peers who understand the economics can help you make decisions. He also points out that the app's own community, including Facebook groups, is where many of the complaints and the advice circulate, and that it is worth choosing the rooms you spend time in with care.

The full video runs about 27 minutes, and the description lists the course and program links he mentions. Those details are his to explain, and they are best heard in his own voice.

Where to go from here

If you take one thread from Redmond's talk, let it be the time horizon. Ask what you are building for 2030, not for next month's numbers. Make fewer things, but give them real substance and real energy. Treat return rate as a design question rather than a formula, and offer generous free work so that the right listeners can find you. Expect the path to be uneven, and build a small circle of peers who understand the business. For a teacher who has watched the rules change, that combination of patience and deliberate craft may be the most durable strategy available. To hear the full nine points in Redmond's own words, watch the video on his channel, and read the description for the links he mentions.

[0:01] hello I am so excited to share with you

[0:05] today it is the end of 2024 and we are

[0:08] approaching a new year and you might be

[0:11] asking yourself what do I need to know

[0:13] about insight timer in 2025 how can I

[0:17] approach this app with the greatest

[0:20] amount of contribution and success how

[0:24] do I make my business my work thrive on

[0:27] the app and if that's you you're in the

[0:31] right place a little quick background on

[0:33] me I've been on inside timer since 2016

[0:37] I have 2 million plays on the app and I

[0:40] also have courses that have over I think

[0:42] like 70,000 students so I've been around

[0:45] I've done a lot I've learned a lot and I

[0:48] hope that I can share with you today

[0:50] some things that might be helpful I'm

[0:52] going to be giving you nine things to

[0:55] think about to bring into the new year

[0:59] some of them are going to be practical

[1:01] some of them are going to be

[1:03] philosophical and some of them are just

[1:05] straight up mindset just the way that

[1:08] you should be approaching this app and

[1:11] approaching your work in the new year

[1:14] before we get fully into it it's

[1:16] important to acknowledge that in 2024

[1:18] there were some big changes with insight

[1:20] timer in that they shifted their pay

[1:23] scale from 50% teachers 50% insight

[1:26] timer to 60% insight timer 40% teachers

[1:30] they they also stopped paying us for

[1:32] comments on tracks and

[1:35] courses in lie of that they added what

[1:37] is known as the RO or return rate bonus

[1:41] that you'd get on your tracks now how to

[1:45] publish and create content for RO is

[1:47] still uncertain we'll talk a little bit

[1:49] about that in these steps but overall I

[1:52] just need to say that inside timer did

[1:56] this in the most generous kind and

[1:59] thought

[2:01] way the way that they went about Slow

[2:03] Rolling this out into the world the way

[2:07] that they talked about it they were

[2:08] transparent about it and they had a fund

[2:11] where they actually helped teachers with

[2:13] that lost Revenue over a few months is

[2:16] just incredible so I I know there's some

[2:18] people that have a lot of negative

[2:20] things to say I can only say positive

[2:23] things about how they did this and

[2:25] understanding that just as you are a

[2:27] business that has to look out for how

[2:28] are you going to thrive in the long term

[2:31] inside timer is a business looking out

[2:33] for how they're going to thrive in the

[2:35] long term and guess what inside timer

[2:37] thriving in the long term is how we

[2:40] thrive on the app in the long term so

[2:43] while I've to taken about a 30% to 35%

[2:48] cut in my Revenue so far I am hopeful

[2:52] that in the long term it is going to

[2:54] continue to grow so I won't say too much

[2:56] about the specifics around personally

[2:59] the hit that I've taken many teachers

[3:01] have taken the hit but I hope that this

[3:03] video gives you some hope some

[3:05] inspiration some motivation to step into

[3:08] 2025 with a different View and a more

[3:11] long-term view which brings us to number

[3:14] one publish your content on inside timer

[3:18] not as if it's 2025 but imagine that

[3:22] you're publishing it for

[3:26] 2030 we are in such a great

[3:31] position this app the mindfulness the

[3:33] meditation world industry if you would

[3:36] call it that is still young it's still

[3:41] budding and although it seems like

[3:43] there's so many teachers on the app

[3:46] comparing it to a YouTube or an

[3:48] Instagram or any other social media

[3:50] platform it is

[3:53] minor and with that inside timer is so

[3:58] generous in how they pay their teachers

[4:00] even though there's been a loss in Pay

[4:02] they are still generous in how much they

[4:04] are paying their teachers let's compare

[4:07] if you were to put your meditations on

[4:09] Spotify Spotify for a million plays pays

[4:15] their artist

[4:18] $3,800 that's less than 1 cent per play

[4:24] insight timer pays their meditation

[4:29] artists

[4:30] 15 cents per play which means if you

[4:34] have a million plays or a million

[4:36] premium plays on inside timer you are

[4:38] going to make

[4:41] $157,000 a million plays on Spotify $

[4:44] 3,800 a million plays on inside timer

[4:48] 157,000 this probably doesn't even make

[4:50] your month end Revenue goal this is a

[4:54] full year of Revenue so it's still such

[4:59] a generous place

[5:00] and as it brings in more money as it

[5:04] grows its users it this is only going to

[5:06] grow and so take the long game approach

[5:10] publish in 2025 with the intention that

[5:13] you are setting and planting the seeds

[5:16] for 2030 which brings us to number

[5:20] two quality over

[5:25] quantity I was in one of the inside

[5:27] timer Facebook groups and someone would

[5:30] was complaining how in 1 month they were

[5:33] made less money than they did the month

[5:36] before even though that they published

[5:38] two courses that month now I don't know

[5:40] the full background story to this

[5:42] person's course but my initial reaction

[5:45] is if you publish two courses in a month

[5:50] they're probably not good

[5:53] courses you might be like L what do you

[5:55] mean I publish you know why we're trying

[5:57] to get more content we're trying to get

[5:58] more courses out there I really want you

[6:00] to start to look at courses specifically

[6:03] as a book imagine if someone said I

[6:06] published two books last month you'll be

[6:08] like there's no way those two books can

[6:11] be of deep substance because if you know

[6:15] bookwriting you know that it takes time

[6:19] heart energy care

[6:22] craft just publishing courses just

[6:26] publishing more content is not the

[6:29] answer

[6:30] there's more content than ever and in

[6:33] order to stand out from the crowd you

[6:37] need to really create Quality quality

[6:39] doesn't mean the best edited stuff by

[6:42] the way quality means there's some lived

[6:46] embodied substantial experience some

[6:49] energy a transmission your gifts that

[6:53] you are giving your care your love your

[6:56] heart only you can know what quality is

[6:59] and it's the quality content that is

[7:02] going to stand out not more so think

[7:05] quality not quantity and the benefit the

[7:08] benefit of creating stuff that you put

[7:11] more energy into is that you're going to

[7:12] actually want to Market it more you're

[7:14] going to want to talk about it more you

[7:15] and people when they listen to it

[7:17] they're going to want to tell other

[7:19] people about it that's how you're going

[7:21] to spread you're not going to spread on

[7:23] inside timer by getting in front of more

[7:26] people you're going to spread and

[7:27] getting in front of the right people who

[7:29] are going to then tell their friends and

[7:31] it will spread by word of mouth because

[7:34] it's that good number three consider the

[7:38] return rate when you are creating any

[7:42] new content whether tracks or courses I

[7:46] say consider because again it's not

[7:48] clear around what actually makes for

[7:51] better return rate but it's worth asking

[7:54] the question because it's the reality

[7:56] that we're living in so when you're

[7:57] actually creating something ask yourself

[8:00] if I were to optimize for a return rate

[8:02] how do I engage this differently and see

[8:05] what your intuition says now the obvious

[8:07] answer says come back tomorrow you you

[8:10] know doing those things or creating kind

[8:12] of challenges where people are coming

[8:14] back um to your content or to other

[8:17] people's content now we don't want to

[8:19] overdo it because then every track on

[8:21] inside timer is just going to be like he

[8:23] come back tomorrow like just just being

[8:25] annoying like that don't do that and you

[8:28] might consider it and I know people that

[8:30] are very successful in the app that

[8:32] literally have said Lou I'm not doing

[8:34] anything different than what I've done

[8:35] I'm going to create content like I

[8:37] create content if I have good RR great

[8:39] if I don't whatever and that's that's

[8:42] also an idea to go but it's just asking

[8:45] the question if I were to optimize for

[8:46] RO in this track what would I do see

[8:49] what happens number four consider

[8:53] creating shorter form content

[8:57] specifically shorter form talks where

[9:02] you are giving people something

[9:04] substantial in a small amount of time

[9:07] and they're getting a chance to really

[9:08] engage with you I have one friend who

[9:13] has maybe one of the most successful

[9:16] courses on the app right now and it's

[9:18] just simply six minutes a day for 88

[9:22] days and it is absolutely crushing you

[9:26] guys might know Charles Charles fre

[9:30] that's working really well I noticed in

[9:32] my own tracks that are six minutes where

[9:36] typically talks they're typically like

[9:38] blogs that I have written really kind of

[9:41] inspirational to the point really

[9:43] crafted talks that do really well that

[9:46] actually get a better Ro overall again

[9:49] not totally but mostly they get a pretty

[9:52] good Ro and the real benefit is there's

[9:55] so many people that have come to courses

[9:59] or have even found me to work oneon-one

[10:01] because they've listened to a 5 six

[10:03] minute talk it gives them a chance to

[10:05] really get to know you it's different

[10:07] than if you just say Okay welcome my

[10:10] name's Lou close your eyes and we're

[10:12] going to breathe and yes we're about

[10:14] guiding meditation but they're just

[10:17] there getting the meditation and if

[10:19] there's not an introduction to more

[10:24] specific themes or you're not talking

[10:26] more they don't get a chance to know you

[10:28] and I think that's going to be the

[10:29] expect factor in building an audience is

[10:31] really when people feel a connection to

[10:33] you and so consider think about if I

[10:36] were to sprinkle in a three to S minute

[10:40] talk every now and then what would I

[10:42] speak about and what's great about talks

[10:45] is they're an easy introduction to your

[10:47] content and they're an easy way to talk

[10:50] about courses that you have that relate

[10:53] to the theme for example I have a talk I

[10:56] believe it's called how to love your

[10:58] life and at the end they'll say I have a

[11:01] course on inside timer about happiness

[11:04] and fulfillment Your Daily Guide to

[11:06] happiness and fulfillment go check it

[11:07] out if you like this talk you're going

[11:09] to love that we go deeper into this

[11:11] topic and so short talks are a great way

[11:15] to promote your courses and other

[11:18] premium content that you have on the

[11:22] app number five if you're newer to

[11:25] inside timer consider posting much more

[11:28] free content the amount of free users on

[11:31] inside timer is vastly bigger than the

[11:35] amount of paid users and so if you're

[11:37] new your job your idea especially if

[11:40] you're posting for 2030 is not to make

[11:42] your living on inside timer this year

[11:44] because that is going to be uh pretty

[11:47] much impossible but it's to think about

[11:49] if I'm building this for the long term

[11:51] my job and my goal is to get in front of

[11:53] as many people to do that free content

[11:56] so if you're newer to the app please I

[11:59] would only post free content you know

[12:01] people like I before the app had a paid

[12:04] version you only posted free content so

[12:06] I was doing this for years and so at

[12:09] this point I think that's the way to

[12:12] start because your goal is to grow and

[12:14] then yes still create courses but

[12:17] similar to what I just said at the end

[12:19] of your free content if it's something

[12:21] that's similar to a course you can then

[12:23] say Oh I have a course on this topic go

[12:26] check it out if you're interested in and

[12:29] that might be the move and if inside

[12:31] timer ever pays for this I hope they do

[12:33] I've something I've told them that I

[12:35] wish they did is pay you if you you were

[12:39] the reason your content was the reason

[12:40] that they paid for the app because maybe

[12:43] someone takes that talk or that

[12:44] meditation and they say wow I really

[12:46] want to take this course by this person

[12:47] I think I'm finally going to go premium

[12:49] so that might come that might not come

[12:52] but regardless you are building more of

[12:55] an audience so when those audience

[12:57] members do Go premium hopefully they're

[13:00] going to want to take your courses

[13:03] number six How to Succeed on inside

[13:05] timer in 2025 is to learn how to succeed

[13:09] off of insight timer in 2025 that means

[13:12] that you have a business you have a job

[13:14] you have something where you're not

[13:16] riant on insight timer to be your main

[13:20] Revenue stream I would say if you are

[13:22] riant on inside timer to be your main

[13:24] Revenue stream your intentions your

[13:27] energy it's going to come from not that

[13:29] generous giving place it's going to come

[13:32] from a need and I've said this in

[13:35] previous content on here is that I don't

[13:39] believe inside timer was built on that

[13:41] Foundation it was built in a generous

[13:45] Spirit Foundation of giving and and that

[13:49] is still I think how it's growing and to

[13:51] think that you need to have it make your

[13:54] income is just going to put too much

[13:56] pressure on the app it's going to put

[13:58] too much pressure on you and so Learning

[13:59] To Succeed on inside timer is learning

[14:02] to succeed off of it and so that means

[14:05] really getting clear on what are your

[14:07] offers off of the app whether it's

[14:10] corporate work whether you're doing

[14:12] mindfulness workshops learning how to

[14:14] figure out that game of your business or

[14:16] whether it's having a really robust

[14:18] oneon-one

[14:20] offer

[14:21] that you sell at a price that you can

[14:24] actually make a living and it's not

[14:28] notice this it's not pushing people from

[14:31] the app to your other things I don't

[14:33] want to don't want to say this like

[14:35] you're meant to push people from the app

[14:37] that is a clear rule on inside timer I

[14:40] do not I am so grateful for inside timer

[14:43] that I really want to keep in respect

[14:44] and integrity to not tell people hey go

[14:47] find my coaching but it's going to be a

[14:49] natural byproduct when people resonate

[14:51] with you they're going to say whoa I

[14:54] really like this person or whoa you know

[14:56] I talk about my coaching I talk about

[14:58] working with clients I talk about things

[14:59] that I'm doing on my talks but that's

[15:02] just part of the content and so if they

[15:04] say whoa this person does coaching okay

[15:06] I'm going to go to their website and

[15:08] then they'll seek me out for coaching

[15:10] and so I still think meditation courses

[15:13] are the greatest way that people can

[15:14] start to build trust with you and if you

[15:17] really create a transformational

[15:19] experience they're going to want to hire

[15:21] you as their coach so it's doing the

[15:24] work on getting your other stuff really

[15:27] solid so that it's so easy for people if

[15:30] they do go and follow you off the app

[15:33] that they know what you have to offer

[15:35] and they go and they purchase coaching

[15:37] with you or they purchase other products

[15:39] or other courses that you have off the

[15:41] app or other programs that you have so

[15:43] it's really learning I I was told this

[15:46] once I've taken it to heart I and I

[15:48] really believe it every successful

[15:51] entrepreneur they they have about three

[15:54] solid income streams and I've done

[15:57] content on here before I've told you my

[15:59] income streams and it's it's it's

[16:01] helpful to not have to it's like three

[16:03] pillars of a house and if one pillar

[16:06] goes down the two pillars can kind of

[16:08] hold it up or if one pillar shifts like

[16:10] inside timer changes the revenue model

[16:12] again oh the other two pillars can hold

[16:14] it up and so figuring out what are those

[16:17] core pillars for so many people who do

[16:19] healing work obviously a one-on-one

[16:21] offer tends to be the easiest but I also

[16:24] encourage you to get into companies and

[16:25] if you're in companies please don't

[16:27] charge anything less if you're doing any

[16:30] kind of mindfulness workshop at a

[16:31] company please don't charge less than

[16:34] ,000 honor yourself honor the time honor

[16:38] the work it's a company I know you might

[16:40] be like L that's crazy it's like $1,000

[16:41] for like an hour meditation that sounds

[16:43] insane I promise you you are sharing to

[16:48] one way more people and it's coming out

[16:51] of a corporate budget and you're already

[16:54] probably undercharging yourself so I'm

[16:56] just just putting that out there for

[16:57] anyone who's like charging like couple

[16:59] 100 bucks to go do a meditation at a

[17:00] company that to charge more that's I'm

[17:04] say that I'll talk more about charging

[17:06] things at some point but really figure

[17:07] out what you need to make a living

[17:10] reverse engineer that set your offerings

[17:11] off of it so that inside timer can be a

[17:13] bonus if inside timer is just a bonus

[17:16] you are in a really good place with it

[17:18] because you're you're free with it and

[17:20] you can just give to it and it can be a

[17:22] bonus and it can grow and he can go out

[17:24] of that generous Spirit okay enough

[17:26] about that number seven

[17:30] consider the

[17:32] Retreats important this is a new

[17:35] offering on inside timer new opportunity

[17:38] if you have a successful Retreat

[17:39] business or if you have a retreat

[17:41] business already maybe it's not the most

[17:42] successful but you've done Retreats

[17:44] before you've worked with it already

[17:46] please by all means go put your retreat

[17:48] on inside timer see what's going to

[17:51] happen now if you got invited to do a

[17:54] retreat but you've never done a retreat

[17:56] before and you think just because you're

[17:59] going to promote it on inside time or

[18:00] that it's going to fill I would caution

[18:04] hard on doing that um as someone whose

[18:08] wife runs a retreat company who has been

[18:12] involved in many Retreats it's not the

[18:15] easiest thing it's proba the hardest

[18:17] thing that you could do and if you don't

[18:19] already have an audience

[18:22] established it's the thing that people

[18:24] need the most trust like people need to

[18:26] really trust you to give you a ton of

[18:28] money not only that money is one thing

[18:31] but then to shift their schedule to get

[18:33] on planes to go to places you know

[18:36] there's so much involved in a retreat

[18:38] that if you don't already have the

[18:40] established audience that I wouldn't

[18:42] even I wouldn't even worry I would just

[18:44] say let's see what happens here for me

[18:46] personally I probably could pull one off

[18:49] but I just don't have any interest at

[18:51] this moment I don't love legistics I

[18:54] don't want to deal with the headache of

[18:55] it and I'm just curious I I don't know

[18:58] if it's going to work and so for me I'm

[19:00] just hanging back I know a couple

[19:02] friends that are are doing Retreats on

[19:03] there and I'm just going to be like

[19:05] let's see I'm just see what happens if

[19:07] if it's a timer you know if if people if

[19:09] the demand is there and people are are

[19:11] really purchasing it from that

[19:13] storefront amazing and then maybe I'll

[19:15] reconsider this for 2026 but I'm hanging

[19:18] around and seeing seeing what happens on

[19:20] this one number eight How To Succeed on

[19:22] inside timer in

[19:25] 2025 consider I'm saying consider a lot

[19:28] but because that's what I want not I'm

[19:29] not I don't have all the answers I'm

[19:30] just saying hey consider this think

[19:32] about it consider joining a mastermind

[19:36] group or starting a mastermind group

[19:38] what is a mastermind group a mastermind

[19:39] group is where people that are on a

[19:42] similar Journey working on similar

[19:44] things maybe at different stages they

[19:46] get together and they help each other

[19:48] grow I have a mastermind group of five

[19:51] people all of them are inside Tim or

[19:53] teachers and we meet every week and

[19:55] while we don't always talk about inside

[19:56] timer stuff or you know we're talking

[19:58] about other business stuff but inside

[20:00] timer is part of it sure and it's just

[20:03] really great to have that support have

[20:06] that energy have people that get what

[20:08] you're going through now I need to

[20:10] plug insight timer groups on Facebook or

[20:15] specifically I need to plug teachers

[20:16] with Insight on Facebook and Tom Evans

[20:19] Tom is really so generous with what he's

[20:23] doing on that group where he's having

[20:27] people come meeting zoom and he's kind

[20:29] of running a mastermind in his own way

[20:32] completely free and so if you're not on

[20:34] there and if you're looking for like the

[20:36] lowest cost thing go check out what

[20:39] Tom's doing because he's doing a really

[20:41] great job go join that Facebook group

[20:43] and connect with other people um but

[20:46] this I'm sorry because I know people on

[20:47] the Facebook group are going to watch

[20:48] this but can we do a little less

[20:49] complaining just a little less

[20:51] complaining just just just just see what

[20:54] happens see what happens uh uh please

[20:58] we're not entitled to anything anything

[20:59] on inside timer less complaining deal

[21:01] with negative reviews I have I have a

[21:02] video on here on how to handle negative

[21:04] reviews on inside timer watch that um

[21:06] and do a little less complaining but uh

[21:08] beyond that thank you Tom if you end up

[21:11] watching this for the work that you're

[21:12] doing now um I also have a paid

[21:16] Mastermind group of teachers coaches um

[21:19] people that are doing this work too I've

[21:21] talked about it before it's called

[21:22] maraki Mastermind and while it's not

[21:25] again it's not all just an it's not an

[21:27] insight timer Mastermind it is

[21:29] Mastermind group and uh my heart and

[21:31] soul is deeply into it so if you're

[21:32] interested in joining a paid group that

[21:34] I have going on please reach out to me

[21:37] or start your own group find two three

[21:41] other teachers that you really resonate

[21:44] with that you want to spend time with

[21:46] the only the only thing with having like

[21:48] 30 people or 20 people jump on is it's

[21:51] not a true Mastermind a true Mastermind

[21:53] is you show up everyone gets a chance to

[21:56] get support from everyone else and

[21:59] there's just this kind of communal

[22:00] support happening so I would suggest

[22:03] finding a group of four other insight

[22:04] timer teachers if you want to focus this

[22:06] specifically on inside timer or what or

[22:09] maybe that you're talking about other

[22:10] parts of your business too and meet

[22:12] weekly for an hour 90 minutes two hours

[22:16] each person share what you need to

[22:18] support on and just go around and boom

[22:21] you can self-organize that on your own

[22:23] so consider joining a mastermind group

[22:25] or creating it okay I've hope my

[22:29] rambling is coherent and you're enjoying

[22:32] and getting something out of this last

[22:34] thing I want to say the the biggest

[22:36] secret for insight timer in

[22:40] 2025

[22:41] is that there are no

[22:45] secrets that insight timer literally

[22:50] gives away every every information every

[22:54] possible trick or tactic they're telling

[22:56] you what to do and and the Facebook

[23:00] group is telling you what to do I am

[23:02] coming on here every so often and

[23:05] talking about this I I have a a podcast

[23:07] where I'm talking about all of this for

[23:09] upand cominging teachers and healers I'm

[23:11] doing it all for free I'm just telling

[23:12] you what to do I would happily answer

[23:14] whatever you ask me about this I will

[23:16] give it away for free I that there's not

[23:19] any secrets to it so if you keep looking

[23:23] for the secret you're just getting in

[23:25] the way of actually just putting in the

[23:27] work yes there might little strategies

[23:30] or tactics here and there that you learn

[23:32] and be like huh yeah I can do this

[23:33] differently but at the end of the day

[23:37] this is about your truth this is about

[23:41] you being in alignment with the creation

[23:46] that wants to flow out of you and when

[23:48] you are in alignment with the creation

[23:50] that wants to flow out of you I like to

[23:52] say God runs the algorithm that that

[23:56] things will show up clients will show up

[23:58] the success will find you that every

[24:01] person that I know is really successful

[24:03] on inside timer they didn't have a

[24:04] strategy they didn't have a a plan they

[24:07] didn't have the secrets they just really

[24:10] had a Soulful gift and Mission that

[24:14] inside timer was a platform for them to

[24:17] express on so um if anyone's trying to

[24:20] to say that they have the secrets I

[24:22] would just pause that that it's all that

[24:24] there that inside timer is giving you

[24:25] all the information I'll give you as

[24:27] much information as I can and and to

[24:30] just come back to trusting that if

[24:33] you're in alignment leaning into your

[24:36] fears letting yourself try new things

[24:38] try new content that maybe you feel is a

[24:41] bit edgy and staying from that space um

[24:46] I think you're going to do really well

[24:48] and again if you're thinking if you're

[24:50] doing that now with the intention of

[24:53] 2030 being your year you're going to go

[24:57] so bar

[24:59] so far because most people are trying to

[25:04] make things happen too fast they're

[25:08] impatient focus on your gifts your

[25:11] Soul's Mission be in it for the long

[25:14] game and you know out of anyone I am

[25:17] rooting so hard for you it's such a gift

[25:22] to be able to to offer something that

[25:24] can be helpful I hope this was enjoyable

[25:27] for you um please give it a like make a

[25:30] comment what resonated what didn't

[25:33] resonate you know what don't you like

[25:35] about what I shared I'm open to it all

[25:37] just boost boost the

[25:40] ALG R boost the algorithm with your

[25:44] comments positive or negative YouTube I

[25:46] have a a way bigger uh ability to to

[25:49] navigate that landscape anyway if you're

[25:52] still listening to this after all these

[25:54] Rambles and you want some support

[25:55] creating

[25:57] meditations in a way that connects to

[26:00] that Spirit uh I have a course that's

[26:02] helping you create your meditation

[26:04] scripts and helping you tap into your

[26:06] creativity it's not a course about like

[26:08] do it my way even though I share my way

[26:10] it's really giving you the paint brushes

[26:14] and the paint and saying hey maybe you

[26:16] try this how do you get inspired with

[26:18] your own inspiration to create something

[26:20] that is evocative that is powerful that

[26:22] makes people say whoa this is I feel a

[26:25] connection with you if you're looking

[26:27] for some insight on that I have a free

[26:29] course called meditation script Mastery

[26:31] it's in the link in the description go

[26:34] check it out see you in the course or

[26:35] I'll see you on the next podcast thanks

[26:39] so much for watching listening wherever

[26:43] you are experiencing this and my voice

[26:45] right now I'll see you soon

According to Lou Redmond's December 2024 video, Insight Timer moved its revenue split from 50/50 to 60% for the platform and 40% for teachers. It also stopped paying for comments on tracks and courses and introduced a return-rate bonus called RO.
Redmond states that Spotify pays an artist about $3,800 per million plays, under one cent per play, while Insight Timer pays around 15 cents per play. He calculates that a million premium plays would earn $157,000 on the app, though he presents this as a long-term picture rather than a typical outcome.
Redmond argues that quality means lived, embodied experience and real energy rather than polished production. He compares publishing courses to writing books: rapid output usually sacrifices the time, care, and craft that make work stand out.
Return rate measures how often listeners come back to a track, and it drives the RO bonus. Redmond suggests teachers ask how they would design differently if they optimized for it, such as creating series or challenges, while avoiding constant 'come back tomorrow' prompts that annoy listeners.
Yes, according to Redmond, who advises creating a great deal of free content and warns against posting only paid material. He says free talks are how new listeners discover a teacher and later decide to take a course or work one-on-one.
He presents mastermind groups as peer communities where teachers and coaches can make decisions with people who understand the business. He describes retreats as a way to extend a teaching beyond the app, framed as an experiment rather than a guaranteed result.
