Their work has reached a very large stage as well: the group performed live at the 61st GRAMMY Awards. For a seeker, that history says something about the evening: this is a seasoned ensemble that has played together for years, in many kinds of rooms and for many kinds of audiences.

About Ram Dass

Ram Dass Khalsa, known professionally as Ram Dass, is a producer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and touring musician. His work moves across contemporary folk, ambient, world, instrumental and contemplative music, and his approach is rooted in collaboration, improvisation and a lifelong engagement with many musical traditions.

He is at the forefront of a movement of musicians exploring the role music can play in bringing healing, solace and connection to people's lives. His own music draws equally on the beauty and the difficulty of human experience, including joy, loss, grief and recovery.

Ram Dass is a classically trained clarinetist who grew up in a family of professional musicians, and he developed an unusually broad musical vocabulary from an early age. That background still shapes his work as both artist and producer. On stage with Snatam Kaur, it is part of what gives the music its range and its attentiveness to each moment.

Before You Go

Kirtan is music for listening and, if you wish, for joining in, so no prior experience is needed to attend a concert like this. Come as you are, and let the evening be as quiet or as participatory as feels right to you.
