説明
This free yoga and mindfulness class is held monthly at the Lilly-Washington Public Library in Lilly, Pennsylvania. It is led by Rachel Allen of YogaSong and centers on wellness, mindfulness and community. People of varying abilities are welcome, so it suits anyone curious about yoga, whether you are new to it or already have a practice.
The class runs from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, an hour in the evening in a community library setting.
What to Expect
Rachel Allen teaches a yoga class shaped around mindfulness and a sense of shared community. The hour is open to a range of abilities, so you can move at a pace that suits your own body. Her classes more broadly are theme-based and draw on yogic philosophy, breathwork, asana, live music and meditation, and her work often brings music and yoga together. The page for this event describes the class itself as focused on wellness, mindfulness and community.
About Rachel Allen
Rachel Allen is a Certified Music Practitioner, Sound Healer, Reiki Master and Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher who works from a trauma informed, social justice framework. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology and is based in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, serving the greater Pittsburgh region and working with individuals and organizations virtually. She describes her work as merging music, yoga and community, with the aim of creating healthy, diverse and joyful communities.
Music is at the heart of her offerings. Alongside yoga, she leads community singing and sound healing using chant, mantra and free movement. Some of the pieces she shares are her own compositions, and others come from her years of group singing across cultures and from the Yogic tradition.
The Setting
The class takes place at the Lilly-Washington Public Library on Memorial Drive in Lilly, Pennsylvania. The program is funded through the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance 1889 Foundation Creative Health Impact Grant, which is why it is offered free of charge.
Before You Go
No particular experience is needed, as varying abilities are welcomed. Bring a yoga mat or towel and any props you like to use. A limited number of mats and props are available at the library, so if you rely on specific equipment, bringing your own is the safest choice. An RSVP is requested through the library.
