説明
This free yoga and mindfulness class takes place monthly at the Lilly-Washington Public Library in Lilly, Pennsylvania, and is led by Rachel Allen of YogaSong. It is a one-hour evening session centered on wellness, mindfulness and community, open to people of varying abilities who want a welcoming, no-cost way to practice yoga close to home.
What to Expect
The class runs from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Rachel describes the focus as wellness, mindfulness and community, and the session is part of a monthly series, so it suits anyone who would like a regular place to practice rather than a one-off class. People with different levels of experience and different physical abilities are welcomed.
Rachel's classes more broadly are theme-based and draw on yogic philosophy, breathwork, asana, live music and meditation. The program is funded through the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance 1889 Foundation Creative Health Impact Grant, which is why it is offered free of charge.
About Rachel Allen
Rachel Allen is a Certified Music Practitioner, Sound Healer, Reiki Master and Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher who works from a trauma informed, social justice framework. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology and is based in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, serving the greater Pittsburgh region and working with individuals and organizations virtually.
Her work, which she describes as merging music, yoga and community, is aimed at creating healthy, diverse and joyful communities. Music sits at the heart of her offerings. Beyond yoga, she leads community singing and sound healing using chant, mantra and free movement. Some of the pieces are her own compositions, and others come from her years of group singing across cultures and from the Yogic tradition.
The Setting
The class is held at the Lilly-Washington Public Library, at 101 Memorial Drive, Suite 2, in Lilly, Pennsylvania. A public library is an unhurried, familiar neighborhood space, and the class is meant to bring the local community together.
Before You Go
Bring a yoga mat or towel and any props you like to use. A limited number of mats and props are available at the library, so if you rely on particular equipment, bringing your own is the safest choice. Because mats are limited and the class is offered through the library, it is worth reserving a place ahead of time by calling the library to RSVP.
There is no cost to attend, and no previous yoga experience is required beyond a willingness to move at your own level.
