Vedic Cosmology and UFOs: Consciousness as the Foundation

Picture a studio in California, two chairs, and a question that sounds like science fiction but is being asked in earnest: what if the ancient Vedic texts of India were describing flying machines, and what if those machines were not only made of metal? In a 2021 conversation for the New Thinking Allowed series, host Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, sat down with Michael Cremo, co-author with Richard Thompson of Forbidden Archaeology, to walk through a cosmos in which consciousness, not matter, is the starting point, and in which craft of every kind move between worlds populated by gods, demons, saints, and beings who may be neither. This article unpacks the ideas Cremo laid out: the Vedic view that mind precedes matter, the three-tiered structure that sorts vehicles by their nature, the cycles of cosmic time that frame it all, and the points of overlap with modern UFO reports that make the conversation worth taking seriously on its own terms, whatever one concludes about its literal claims.

What makes the Vedic view of reality different from a materialist one?

The starting assumption is the hinge of everything else. Cremo described the difference plainly: Western thought, in his telling, treats matter as primary and asks how consciousness somehow emerges from it, a question he said has not been explained yet. The Vedic cosmos reverses the arrow. As he put it in the interview, "the Vedic cosmos is based on consciousness, that matter comes from consciousness rather than the other way around."

That reversal produces what Cremo called a personalist universe, one in which personality, intelligence, and individuality are built into the structure of reality rather than appearing late in the story. If intelligence is foundational, then a cosmos full of intelligent beings is not an accident. It is the expected result. Cremo's point was that such a universe is inhabited, and that its inhabitants are in communication with one another through many channels, flying machines among them.

He was careful to distinguish this from simple polytheism. Beneath the many beings sits one ultimate being of pure consciousness, the source of the rest. Below that are superhuman beings called devas, which Cremo compared loosely to the angels of Judeo-Christian thought: intermediaries between the supreme and ordinary humans. Mishlove noted the resonance with the war between good and evil forces found in Zoroastrian and Christian traditions, and Cremo agreed that a similar cosmic conflict runs through the Vedic material.

How do Vedic texts describe flying craft across different realms?

This is the part of the conversation that sets it apart from most discussions of ancient aircraft. Cremo laid out a basic cosmological division that sorts vehicles by the level of reality they belong to. There is a terrestrial level of ordinary physical elements. There is a more subtle, intermediate realm of mental and intellectual energies. And there is the realm of pure consciousness, or spirit. Each level, he said, has its own kind of craft.

The sorting matters because it changes what a "vehicle" can mean. Some craft are material, built from physical elements and technology. Others are more subtle, produced through yogic and mystical powers. And some, in his words, are "of a definitely different nature and totally non-material." That third category is where the interview moves furthest from anything a mechanical reading could accommodate.

Cremo took the time to show that this is not a loose metaphor applied after the fact. He pointed to the way the texts describe craft in mechanical terms in some passages and in purely mental or spiritual terms in others, and argued that a reader should not force every description into a single category. A flying vehicle that operates through the mind is still, in the text's own logic, a vehicle, and it belongs to a different level of the cosmos than a machine of metal and fuel.

The Vedic cosmos is based on consciousness, that matter comes from consciousness rather than the other way around.

Michael Cremo, speaking with Jeffrey Mishlove on New Thinking Allowed, recorded September 8, 2021

Mishlove framed this in terms a modern listener recognizes. Flying vehicles, he noted, are used widely not only by the devas but by the asuras and many other levels of beings that inhabit the Vedic universe. The question for a reader is less whether the craft existed as hardware than what the texts think a craft is, and how its nature changes depending on whose mind is doing the flying.

Why do the Vedic texts describe a cosmos at war with itself?

The social structure of the Vedic universe is organized around two broad orientations, and understanding them clarifies why the craft exist at all. Cremo described the material cosmos as serving two purposes. The first is to let conscious beings enjoy themselves separately from God and pursue their own interests, often in intense competition with others doing the same thing. The second is to offer a path back. Souls can use the material world to reach a position beyond birth, death, conflict, and competition, which Cremo described as their natural state.

Those who strive toward that return are called suras, meaning saintly people. Those moving in the opposite direction are called asuras, meaning not saintly. The two groups come into conflict, and according to Cremo that conflict has gone on for ages, sometimes involving the earth itself. In that sense the Vedic universe is less a backdrop than a battlefield, and the vehicles are the means by which the combatants move across it.

This is a useful place for a reader to slow down. The asuras and suras are not defined by hardware. They are defined by orientation, by whether a conscious being is moving toward or away from its own deeper nature. A craft, then, is a tool in a moral and spiritual drama, and its description in the texts carries that weight with it.

Where do the Vedic accounts overlap with modern UFO reports?

Mishlove framed the discussion around what he called fringe phenomena: the ancient archaeological puzzles, the reports from UFO research, and the anomalies studied in parapsychology, all of which he suggested seem to accord with the Vedic tradition. Cremo agreed that the overlap is real and worth tracing, though he was clear that it has to be approached one step at a time.

The most interesting move Cremo made was to bring the conversation toward contemporary physics. He pointed out that modern cosmology and astrophysics have been moving in a direction that resembles the Vedic picture, particularly in the idea of a multiverse or many universes. The concept that the Vedic texts describe a plurality of universes, rather than one, is not new to them. For Cremo, the fact that present-day theorists now entertain versions of that idea is an invitation to take the older cosmology more seriously rather than dismiss it as myth.

Cremo also argued that the sheer scale of the Vedic universe was recognized long before Western traditions acknowledged how vast the cosmos is. That claim is central to his case that the texts are doing something more than storytelling. A tradition that counts time in vast cycles of creation and destruction is working on a different scale of imagination than one that begins with a single creation event a few thousand years ago.

It is worth being plain about the status of these claims. The comparison between Vedic craft and modern UFO reports is an interpretive argument, drawn from the texts and from Cremo's reading of them. The interview itself is a conversation about worldview and the texts' internal logic. It is not a verdict from mainstream science, and readers who want to weigh the physical evidence will need to look beyond it.

Are these descriptions literal, figurative, or something in between?

The question underneath the entire conversation is whether the Vedic universe should be read as a map or a myth. Cremo acknowledged that many people assume the mythology is meant figuratively, the product of poetic imagination and primitive thinking. He said that view is a real challenge to modern mentalities, and he treated it as the central obstacle to be overcome rather than a foregone conclusion.

The scale of his cosmic timeline makes the point vivid. In one account from the conversation, the god Maha Vishnu lies dreaming upon the cosmic ocean, and as he breathes out, millions of universes expand from the pores of his skin. When he breathes in, they return to his body. Cremo said each of those breaths lasts 311 trillion years, and that when universes are manifest, souls are placed within the material world rather than the spiritual one. For a reader raised on a single linear history, this is an enormous conceptual leap, and Cremo's aim seemed to be to show that it is internally coherent.

There is a further layer. The Vedic material describes beings with a wide range of technological and spiritual attainments, and some of the capacities attributed to advanced practitioners involve the mind shaping the physical world. Cremo discussed these descriptions as part of the same continuum that includes the craft, the realms, and the souls moving between bodies. The texts, in his reading, do not separate the technological from the spiritual the way modern categories do.

There are different kinds of vimanas described in the ancient Vedic text.

Michael Cremo, New Thinking Allowed, September 8, 2021 (paraphrased from the opening of the interview)

How should a reader approach this material?

The most productive approach is to treat the conversation as a guided tour of a worldview rather than a settled set of facts. Start with the foundational claim, that consciousness is primary, because nearly every other idea follows from it. Then follow the three-level structure of the cosmos, noting how it distinguishes material, subtle, and spiritual craft. Hold the suras and asuras in mind as the moral orientation that gives the whole system its drama. And finally, test the comparison to modern cosmology and to UFO reports against the sources, asking which parallels hold up and which depend on interpretation.

Readers who want to go deeper should expect that the primary texts are rich, layered, and often read differently across traditions. Cremo's own published work, including his book on human devolution and his collected scientific papers, extends his arguments beyond this conversation. Engaging with them alongside the texts themselves, and with critical responses, is the best way to form a considered view rather than an enthusiastic or dismissive one.

Where to go from here

This interview is most valuable as an entry point. It introduces a cosmology that inverts the materialist assumption, sorts flying craft by the level of reality they inhabit, and frames cosmic history on a timescale that dwarfs ordinary imagination. Whether you find the claims persuasive or not, the questions it raises about mind, matter, and the nature of vehicles and beings are unusually precise. Watch the full conversation on the New Thinking Allowed channel, read Cremo's books for the argument in full, and compare the Vedic accounts with the reports and theories that interest you most. The conversation is an invitation to slow down and take a worldview seriously on its own terms, and that is the most useful thing a reader can take from it.

[2:14] Conversations on the leading edge of

[2:16] knowledge and discovery with

[2:18] psychologist Jeffrey [music] Michionlo.

[2:27] Hello and welcome. I'm Jeffrey

[2:29] Michionlo. Our topic today is the Vic

[2:33] tradition and UFOs. My guest is Michael

[2:37] Kremo who is co-author with Richard

[2:39] Thompson of The Hidden History of the

[2:42] Human Race and also Forbidden

[2:46] Archaeology. I might mention that

[2:48] Richard Thompson, his co-author, has

[2:50] also written a book that we'll be

[2:52] touching on today called Alien

[2:55] Identities.

[2:57] Michael Krimo is also author of human

[3:00] devolution as well as a collection of

[3:04] his scientific papers called my science

[3:08] my religion. Michael is based in

[3:11] California. And now I'll switch over to

[3:14] the internet video.

[3:18] Welcome Michael. It's a real pleasure to

[3:20] be with you once again.

[3:22] >> Good to be with you Jeff. We'll be

[3:25] talking about the Vadic tradition and

[3:28] and UFOs and I think it's pretty

[3:30] generally known that flying vehicles are

[3:34] used uh widely by uh not only the davas

[3:39] and deities but the assuras and many

[3:43] levels of beings that inhabit the vadic

[3:46] universe. And I think it might be a

[3:48] useful thing to begin by talking about

[3:52] how the vadic world view is different

[3:55] than uh the western world view. Well,

[3:58] yes, it's different, Jeffrey, in that

[4:01] it's a more consciousnessbased

[4:04] picture of the universe

[4:08] uh than the western concept which is

[4:12] fairly materialist in its ontology.

[4:17] you know that matter is primary yet

[4:21] consciousness develops somehow or other

[4:25] from matter in a way they've not

[4:27] explained yet. But the vic cosmos is

[4:33] based on consciousness

[4:35] that matter comes from consciousness

[4:39] rather than the other way around that

[4:41] consciousness comes from

[4:45] matter. So it's also a very personal

[4:51] personalist universe

[4:53] uh where personality, intelligence,

[4:57] individuality

[4:59] are all built into the structure of the

[5:02] cosmos. So the entire thing is inhabited

[5:07] and there are communication channels

[5:11] between the different types of conscious

[5:14] beings that exist in the different parts

[5:17] of the vadic cosmos. And among those

[5:22] means of communication are uh things

[5:27] such as flying machines,

[5:30] uh spacecraft,

[5:32] things like that.

[5:33] So that that's the basic difference. One

[5:37] of the things that strikes me is is of

[5:41] course that uh western thought is

[5:44] influenced by the Judeo-Christian

[5:46] tradition which is monotheistic and the

[5:49] Vic tradition is I guess you would have

[5:53] to say it's polytheistic.

[5:56] Well, but in a special sense, there is a

[6:01] monotheistic element to it in that there

[6:05] is one ultimate being of pure

[6:10] consciousness that is the source of all

[6:15] the others. Now all of the others

[6:20] uh may exist with different levels of

[6:24] powers and abilities.

[6:27] Uh and those with human abilities are on

[6:31] one level but there are superhuman

[6:34] beings according to the vic cosmology.

[6:38] They're called davas which in some ways

[6:41] corresponds to the Judeo-Christian

[6:44] concept of angels as beings intermediate

[6:49] between the supreme conscious

[6:52] intelligent being God if you will and

[6:56] ordinary humans for example. So it's

[7:01] something like that. You could say uh

[7:05] that Christianity is in a substance

[7:08] polytheistic if you count the angels as

[7:12] supernatural beings. So uh similar

[7:18] similar ideas there in the beta

[7:20] cosmology.

[7:21] In fact, one of the main themes one sees

[7:24] in many religions uh including the

[7:27] Zoroastrian

[7:28] tradition and Christianity is this idea

[7:31] of a a war between the good forces and

[7:34] the evil forces taking place in in these

[7:38] hyperspace or super sensual realities

[7:41] and and that also seems to be part of

[7:43] the Vadic tradition.

[7:46] >> Absolutely. Uh one thing to keep in mind

[7:49] about the vic tradition is that everyone

[7:52] every being is ultimately a being of

[7:55] pure consciousness.

[7:57] That is the natural state of a conscious

[8:02] living entity. It's meant to exist on a

[8:06] level where there's no birth, no death.

[8:09] However, we find ourselves in another

[8:12] position at the present moment in the

[8:15] material universe

[8:17] which is there for two purposes. One is

[8:22] to allow us to enjoy separately from God

[8:28] to pursue our own interest and

[8:31] competition with others who are doing

[8:33] the same thing. and the competition can

[8:37] get quite intense. So that is uh one

[8:42] type of levy entity that exists in the

[8:45] material cosmos. Material cosmos also

[8:48] oper offers opportunities for uh the

[8:53] souls here, the conscious entities here

[8:56] to come to their natural position and

[9:01] exist in a realm beyond birth and death

[9:04] and conflict and competition.

[9:07] So those who are striving for that are

[9:12] called suras means saintly people and

[9:17] that those who are going in the opposite

[9:19] direction are called assuras not saintly

[9:22] people and they come into conflict there

[9:27] there have been universal

[9:30] conflicts that have gone on for ages

[9:34] and sometimes The earth planet is

[9:39] involved in those conflicts between the

[9:43] forces of good you might say and the

[9:45] forces of darkness.

[9:48] One of the most unique features I think

[9:50] of the vdic tradition is that it it has

[9:54] always recognized the immenseness of the

[9:57] universe long before western traditions

[10:01] uh really acknowledged how how large the

[10:03] universe is. And I gather that according

[10:06] to the Vic tradition there are hundreds

[10:10] of thousands of different kinds of uh

[10:13] humanoid beings who live on on other

[10:16] planets or in other hyperspaceial

[10:19] dimensions.

[10:21] Yes. And even on other universes there's

[10:24] not just one. According to the Vic

[10:28] understanding,

[10:30] there's an expansion of the original

[10:35] personality of godhead

[10:39] uh called Maha Vishnu who is responsible

[10:43] for manifesting the material universes.

[10:47] This Maha Vishnu in a stated lies

[10:53] sweeping of the cosmic ocean, the cosal

[10:57] ocean and he's dreaming. And as he

[11:03] breathes out, millions of universes

[11:07] expand from the pores of the skin of his

[11:11] body. And when he breathes in, the

[11:16] universes come back into his body. And

[11:19] when the universes are manifest, he

[11:22] places, he injects with his glands

[11:28] souls that are

[11:32] fit for existing in the material world

[11:35] rather than the spiritual world. So each

[11:39] one of those breaths lasts 311 trillion

[11:43] years.

[11:44] So you're you're right. It there are

[11:48] immense periods of time, vast cycles of

[11:51] creation and destruction, not just of

[11:53] one universe but of many. It's a real

[11:57] challenge to our current mentalities.

[12:02] Many people might think that uh like uh

[12:05] so much that we see in mythology, it's

[12:08] meant to be taken figuratively or it's

[12:11] the product of poetic imagination and

[12:15] primitive mythological thinking. But uh

[12:19] today we have a whole host of uh fringe

[12:23] phenomena. You reported extensively on

[12:26] the fringe phenomena known in

[12:28] archaeology but also in the field of UFO

[12:31] research. We have and parasychology all

[12:35] these fringe phenomena that seem to be

[12:38] in accord with the vadic tradition.

[12:43] Yes. Uh absolutely.

[12:45] Of course, one has to proceed step by

[12:48] step. But I'll even point out that

[12:51] modern cosmology and astrophysics are

[12:55] have been moving in the vadic direction.

[12:59] Now there's the concept of the

[13:02] multiverse or many worlds or many

[13:05] universes theory which is something that

[13:08] was always there in the beta cosmology.

[13:11] You can say it's just a coincidence but

[13:15] uh uh I think there are too many of

[13:18] these coincidences like the idea of an

[13:20] expanding universe that's there in the

[13:23] vic cosmology when the universes emerge

[13:28] from the maishna they're in small

[13:30] seedlike form and then they're energized

[13:35] by the glance of mahabishnu

[13:39] and they expand. So the expanding

[13:42] universe is something that modern

[13:45] cosmology has come up with modern

[13:47] astrophysics

[13:48] the and also a contracting universe.

[13:51] They call it the big bang and the big

[13:54] bounce that yeah universes expand and

[13:58] then they contract again. that that idea

[14:01] is also there in the veed cosmology. And

[14:07] as I said, modern science has uh no no

[14:12] comprehensive uh understanding of the

[14:15] origin of consciousness

[14:18] and the veined cosmology. It's built in

[14:22] to the holes and stuff. And many modern

[14:24] cosmologists are starting to think about

[14:28] that consciousness may be a property of

[14:31] matter. They're they're they're trying

[14:33] to accommodate that way. Well, if I were

[14:37] to look at the uh Vadic tradition and

[14:41] ask myself how is it distinguished from

[14:44] other ancient traditions that have given

[14:46] us maps or pictures of the universe, one

[14:49] of the first things that would come to

[14:51] mind is the uh science uh and practice

[14:54] of yoga and meditation seems to be uh

[14:58] much more highly developed in the uh

[15:01] Vadic traditions uh and its offshoot of

[15:04] Buddhism than one would find in uh the

[15:08] Judeo-Christian tradition or shamanistic

[15:11] traditions or other

[15:14] religious variations.

[15:17] Uh you're right that the concepts may be

[15:22] high more highly developed in uh the vic

[15:27] system of thought and practice but

[15:31] uh they are also features of the world

[15:36] views of other wisdom traditions. Yeah.

[15:41] And one of my books, human devolution, I

[15:44] included a chapter which I called

[15:47] cross-cultural study of cosmologies

[15:50] where I look at about 40 of the world's

[15:57] wisdom traditions and cultures uh widely

[16:01] separated in time and space. And

[16:05] practically every one of them has

[16:08] similar features in the sense that uh

[16:12] they involve some acknowledgment of the

[16:15] privacy of consciousness and personality

[16:18] and the universe that that we're part of

[16:21] a whole cosmic hierarchy of beings. That

[16:24] there are connections between

[16:26] terrestrial humans and beings that exist

[16:30] on higher levels of reality. that there

[16:34] is a conscious self that can travel out

[16:38] of the body on as you said shamanic

[16:41] journeys other types of things. So

[16:46] although you may notice

[16:50] differences of degree, I I think some of

[16:53] the basic elements are are there and

[16:56] practically all of these were

[16:58] subtraditions and I think that's because

[17:01] they're looking at the same reality

[17:04] from different points of view.

[17:08] Well, with regard to uh UFO phenomena, I

[17:12] think uh one can find examples of uh

[17:17] flying devices uh in pretty much every

[17:21] tradition, in particular folk

[17:23] traditions, but uh they're very

[17:26] elaborate in in the Vadic tradition. In

[17:29] fact, they're so elaborate one uh is

[17:32] inclined to think it's the the product

[17:34] of a fanciful imagination. For example,

[17:37] the uh the vimeas

[17:40] uh that are described, the flying

[17:42] machines in the vdic culture, some of

[17:45] them are thought to be as as large as as

[17:48] a temple itself or a palace itself,

[17:51] flying palaces, even flying cities.

[17:55] Yes. Uh that's a fact. Such things

[17:58] exist.

[17:59] And you know some modern

[18:04] inventors and scientists and others are

[18:09] proposing such things. Of course, it may

[18:14] be in the realm of science fiction, but

[18:17] to me, it's very interesting that if you

[18:22] widen the word to propose, well, these

[18:25] descriptions are simply imagination.

[18:29] Well, it's kind of interesting that the

[18:33] things that are imagined turn out to be

[18:36] things that people today either observe

[18:40] in modern UFO

[18:44] phenomenon

[18:46] or

[18:47] uh that they correspond to uh the kinds

[18:52] of things that are scientists, the

[18:55] technologists are proposing to build

[18:58] actual technologies that that we have.

[19:04] I think it's important to realize that

[19:08] there are different kinds of vivas

[19:11] described in the ancient vic text. Uh

[19:16] the the basic cosmological division and

[19:20] the vic cosmology at that there's a

[19:23] terrestrial level

[19:25] uh with ordinary physical elements.

[19:29] There's a more subtle intermediate realm

[19:32] with subtle mental and intellectual

[19:35] energies. And then there's the realm of

[19:38] pure consciousness or spirit. And each

[19:41] level has its different kind of dam or

[19:45] craft. Some are material

[19:49] made of material elements, technology.

[19:52] Others are more subtle produced by yogic

[19:56] mystic powers and some are of a

[20:01] definitely different nature and totally

[20:03] nonmaterial.

[20:05] I gather that some of the vmanas

[20:08] described in the vadic tradition seem

[20:11] very much like modern airplanes. They

[20:14] have wings uh like birds. I I think

[20:17] maybe the wings even flap like uh birds.

[20:21] I think uh uh people have sometimes

[20:24] referred to that as an ornithopter.

[20:28] Yes, there are such things described and

[20:32] uh some of the especially the medieval

[20:36] Sanskrit uh literature on these things.

[20:40] There are things that

[20:43] resemble modern aircraft. It's stated,

[20:47] for example, that they're they have

[20:49] wings. They're made of very light wood.

[20:54] And some of the early airplanes that

[20:57] were invented in Western Europe and the

[21:01] United States were also manufactured

[21:05] with very light wood and things like

[21:09] that. So, but what makes the the

[21:13] medieval theas of uh India

[21:19] interesting is that it said they were

[21:21] powered by Mercury fuel engines

[21:25] which is kind of interesting.

[21:28] That would be a a difference.

[21:31] However, there are other venadas that

[21:34] resemble not ordinary flying craft with

[21:39] wings, but objects that more resemble

[21:43] some of the UFO

[21:46] modern UFO kinds of of of reports.

[21:51] Uh for example, the uh

[21:56] flying machine that was used by the king

[21:59] Schol who was on the side of the forces

[22:02] of darkness to attack the city of Dorica

[22:07] which about 5,000 years ago was a center

[22:12] of you could say the forces of light and

[22:16] good on earth,

[22:19] an avatar of God uh Krishna appeared

[22:23] there and was ruling a place. So this

[22:28] uh vivana was obtained by king shu from

[22:32] a higher being among the aurorans or the

[22:38] demoniac forces in the universe. It's

[22:41] kind of an early example of

[22:44] interplanetary

[22:46] technology transfer

[22:49] which many modern ufologists talk about

[22:52] that a lot of our technology has been

[22:55] developed by contact with

[22:57] extraterrestrial beings. So you have

[23:00] things like that.

[23:03] I can go on for a long time about the uh

[23:07] the model that King Shelva

[23:10] used to attack the city of Dwar because

[23:13] it has many features that are currently

[23:17] being developed by modern militaries for

[23:21] example.

[23:22] >> Yes, let's let's uh if you would

[23:24] elaborate on the story I think that

[23:26] would be quite interesting.

[23:29] So this king Shala the Ashura

[23:33] got this technology from a being called

[23:38] Maya who was the engineer of the

[23:42] demoniac forces of the universe. So he

[23:45] gave him this uh the mana made of metals

[23:50] to attack the city of Dora. And he used

[23:54] weapons that in one sense are described

[23:58] as arrows and spears. But in the

[24:02] descriptions that are given, he said

[24:03] it's stated when he released

[24:07] this arrow, it roared through the sky

[24:11] and appeared like a bolt of lightning

[24:14] shooting through the uh atmosphere

[24:18] and

[24:19] uh the weapon was countered by the

[24:23] forces below in the city of Dorca with

[24:26] weapons that

[24:28] again were described as arrow rose or

[24:31] spears, but they're obviously not a a

[24:34] thin stick of wood with a metal tip on

[24:37] it. The way that they're described

[24:39] resemble modern anti-missile missiles.

[24:44] So, it's uh really quite interesting.

[24:48] And this craft that Schul was operating,

[24:54] it it could appear in several places at

[24:58] once. And it could appear and disappear

[25:02] uh as well from the vision of the uh

[25:06] defenders of the city below. And this

[25:10] resembles exactly

[25:12] modern UFO reports of how these things

[25:16] they appear and disappear. They have

[25:20] light movements that are very difficult

[25:22] to account for. And it's also something

[25:26] that we see in modern military

[25:28] technologies. You know, for example,

[25:32] uh they design nuclear warheads that are

[25:36] attached to intercontinental ballistic

[25:39] missiles that uh can try to deceive uh

[25:45] radar and other detection methods by

[25:49] giving out false signals. So you don't

[25:52] know which one is the real uh warhead,

[25:56] you know, that needs to be shot down.

[25:59] It's kind of interesting that, you know,

[26:01] if you you would say, well, the soldiers

[26:04] imagination, it seems to be imagination

[26:08] that conforms in many ways to things

[26:11] that are being developed these days.

[26:15] Also this uh

[26:19] machine this mana had the ability to

[26:23] project holographic images.

[26:27] So it's a really an interesting kind of

[26:30] story. Krishna was fighting when Shala

[26:35] who had King Shala who had beamed down

[26:38] from the uh the man that was hovering

[26:42] over the city of Dwara

[26:45] and

[26:46] during uh the battle

[26:50] this uh king Shalo he produced

[26:55] Krishna's father and he said I've

[26:59] captured your father Krishna

[27:01] and I'm going to cut off his head.

[27:06] And he did that, held the head up and

[27:10] then

[27:11] was beamed back up into the the Lana and

[27:16] then Krishna noticed that the body of

[27:19] his father so-called had disappeared and

[27:22] he understood it it wasn't a re real

[27:26] body. It was an image projected by the

[27:30] machine. So I yeah I I find this

[27:34] fascinating if it's all just

[27:36] imagination.

[27:38] It's uh pretty good uh pretty good kind

[27:42] of like Galileo or no dainci Leonardo da

[27:46] Vinci he had a good imagination. and he

[27:50] was able to come up with ideas that are

[27:53] just now being manifested

[27:56] in actual physical form. Surely we know

[28:00] that human imagination is a very

[28:03] powerful thing and uh many great

[28:07] inventions started out as uh in in the

[28:11] imaginary mind of uh fictional authors.

[28:14] The submarine, for example, uh was uh

[28:17] described extensively by Jules Vern

[28:20] before it was ever built and 20,000

[28:23] leagues under uh the sea. But the the

[28:26] sense from uh the the Vadic tradition

[28:29] and I believe there are many adherence

[28:31] who take it quite literally is is that

[28:35] these things actually happened uh in

[28:38] very ancient times in physical reality

[28:41] as as we know it. I'm certainly number

[28:45] myself among

[28:47] that category

[28:49] that I think these these things actually

[28:54] did exist. And one demonstration of that

[28:59] is that even today

[29:02] very trained observers like military uh

[29:07] jet pilots,

[29:10] commercial airline pilots and others,

[29:13] astronomers, other people with training

[29:17] have observed and reported such things.

[29:22] So that that to me is a confirmation of

[29:27] the reality of the phenomena. It's

[29:30] interesting that some of these people

[29:32] who report these things that are uh

[29:35] described in the ancient Sanskrit

[29:38] writings of India have total lack of

[29:40] familiarity with that literature.

[29:45] They know absolutely nothing about the

[29:48] ancient reports. And the fact that these

[29:50] ancient reports match up with the modern

[29:54] UFO alien abduction types of reports, I

[29:59] think, is a sign that we're talking

[30:03] about something real.

[30:06] Well, as a parasychologist myself, I'm

[30:09] very interested in the intersection

[30:11] between human psychic abilities or what

[30:15] in the Vic tradition might be thought of

[30:17] as the cities and UFO phenomenon. I've

[30:21] even uh done extensive research uh with

[30:24] an individual I wrote about in a book

[30:26] called the PK man who said that he uh

[30:30] had been uh operated on his brain had

[30:33] been operated on by alien entities and

[30:36] he was given extraordinary powers.

[30:39] Amongst those powers was the ability to

[30:43] summon UFOs which he demonstrated on

[30:46] multiple occasions uh including for me

[30:49] in very dramatic ways.

[30:52] The Vadic traditions seem to go to great

[30:55] lengths to talk about the psychic or

[30:58] psychological dimension of the UFO

[31:02] phenomenon that these are craft for

[31:04] example that can be controlled entirely

[31:07] through concentration.

[31:09] Yes. Uh even the craft of shala is

[31:15] called kama ga ga means to go.

[31:19] means by one's will. So yes, these uh

[31:26] craft, these nadas could be controlled

[31:30] mentally. And again, this is something

[31:33] that modern military technology is

[31:36] developing. The current generation of

[31:39] fighter aircraft travel at such speeds

[31:42] that it's almost impossible to control

[31:44] them by ordinary

[31:48] movements of hands and feet. You have to

[31:51] try to control the aircraft. So they uh

[31:55] they have tried to develop sensors that

[31:59] allow the pilot to control the craft

[32:03] mentally or by eye movements

[32:07] rather than you know physical physical

[32:10] movements. So that that uh ability was

[32:14] there. Uh and as far as the paranormal

[32:20] element goes, sometimes even the

[32:22] manufacturer of the manas uh especially

[32:26] by higher beings is in that category.

[32:30] There it was the flying city type of

[32:34] vada

[32:36] that was manifested by the sage karda

[32:40] mooney. There's a description of that in

[32:42] the bhagavat paratha. just mentally he

[32:46] was able to manifest a flying city and

[32:50] he and his wife uh went on a journey a

[32:54] tour of the universe in this which was

[32:57] like you you've mentioned the flying

[33:00] palace but it it wasn't made by mining

[33:05] minerals from the earth refining them

[33:07] into metals in a factory hammering them

[33:10] together to produce a machine it was

[33:13] produced is mentally and it could be

[33:17] controlled mentally and a really

[33:21] interesting feature of it

[33:24] although you know from the Bavat Pavan

[33:27] is that within this flying palace there

[33:32] were guards and animals and birds and

[33:36] some of the birds it's stated directly

[33:39] in the text were machines they were

[33:43] robots

[33:44] And they were so realistic that the

[33:47] living birds would fly up to them and

[33:50] try to interact with them like like a

[33:53] live bird. And yeah, I I found it kind

[33:57] of interesting that modern military

[33:59] technology, they develop drones for

[34:02] surveillance.

[34:03] And you know, if you have a regular

[34:06] mechanical drone and the people that

[34:10] you're trying to observe see it, they

[34:12] can understand what it is. So the army

[34:16] in particular has developed drones that

[34:18] look like birds and [clears throat]

[34:21] when they're flying they get attacked by

[34:24] hawks that that think they're other

[34:27] birds. So I I found that kind of

[34:30] interesting that this idea of robot

[34:34] birds so real that real birds approach

[34:37] them is there and the bavat piranha in

[34:41] Sanskrit and it's also there in the

[34:44] latest military technology reports

[34:46] that's I find that fascinating well you

[34:50] mentioned that there are different

[34:51] levels in the vadic tradition you have

[34:54] the the idea that there are countless

[34:57] planets in which there will be living uh

[35:01] biological creatures like ourselves

[35:03] probably humanoid and more or less and

[35:06] uh at different levels of technology and

[35:09] levels of spiritual evolution. But then

[35:12] there are these higher beings, the

[35:14] davas, the angelic beings or the uh

[35:17] demonic beings, the assuras and they

[35:21] also have technology. But in addition to

[35:24] their technology, they have powers of

[35:29] the mind itself, cities to where they

[35:32] can manifest. They don't need technology

[35:35] because of of their advanced spiritual

[35:37] powers.

[35:39] >> Yes, that's absolutely true.

[35:41] of some of them and that paranormal

[35:46] aspect is definitely there in the UFO

[35:51] accounts of modern times as well. I I've

[35:55] been following the UFO field for many

[35:59] years now and I could see a while back

[36:03] that a lot of the UFO researchers were

[36:07] in what we call the nuts and bolts

[36:10] category. They they were just looking

[36:12] for mechanical technology made by other

[36:16] humanlike beings on other planets. And

[36:20] then some of them began getting into the

[36:23] more paranormal stuff, especially

[36:26] connected with the abduction phenomena

[36:30] where people would uh describe,

[36:34] you know, they'd be sleeping at night

[36:37] and they wake up and a beam of light

[36:39] would be shining on them and they'd be

[36:42] floated through a wall

[36:45] uh and up into some kind of crack where

[36:49] They they were uh subjected to medical

[36:54] investigations and probes of their

[36:57] bodies and then so now they would be

[37:00] returned. So that paranormal

[37:02] element began to enter into uh UFO

[37:07] extraterrestrial types of

[37:09] investigations.

[37:11] And that is something that is also as

[37:15] you pointed out there in the vic

[37:19] conception of things as well. uh the

[37:23] ability to manifest these cities or

[37:27] mystic powers being able to as you say

[37:33] travel from level to level and place to

[37:35] place in the universe and sometimes that

[37:40] this involves weird transformations of

[37:44] time and space you know for example at

[37:48] in the piranhas there's the story of

[37:50] king kuk could who had a daughter,

[37:54] Raven, and he he was interested in

[37:58] seeing that she found a good husband. He

[38:00] was thinking, well, this prince seems

[38:03] like a good match. Maybe this king, he's

[38:06] pretty young and powerful. He'd be a

[38:08] good match. So he decided, well, let me

[38:12] let me go up to the planet of Brahma,

[38:17] the chief demi god, chief sura. And he

[38:21] did that. He went with his daughter up

[38:24] to the planet of Brahma. And he was told

[38:26] by the doorkeeper there, well, he's busy

[38:30] right now, but he'd be right with you in

[38:32] a moment or two. And then Brahma came

[38:34] after a few minutes and asked the king

[38:37] what he wanted. and he said, "Well, I'm

[38:41] considering different uh possibilities

[38:44] for a husband for my daughter." And he

[38:49] began listing the names of different

[38:51] kings and princes. The brother told him,

[38:55] "Well, you know, in the small time

[38:57] you've been here, millions of years that

[38:59] passed on Earth, and everybody that

[39:01] you're talking about, it was dead gone a

[39:05] long time." So anyways, we'll arrange

[39:09] things so your daughter will find a

[39:13] proper match or soulmate or whatever.

[39:16] And so it went back to earth after

[39:19] millions of years had passed.

[39:23] One of the other aspects of the Vadic

[39:26] tradition which does seem to be in

[39:28] accordance with uh reports from UFO

[39:32] experiencers is the idea that these UFOs

[39:36] may not necessarily all originate from

[39:40] outer space and other planets. Uh the

[39:42] thought is that uh a a couple of things.

[39:45] There could be parallel dimensions that

[39:47] are essentially right here on Earth, but

[39:50] parallel to the three dimensions we

[39:52] normally experience, or even within the

[39:56] three-dimensional reality we experience,

[39:59] but just somehow hidden beneath the

[40:02] ocean or in caves somewhere or in

[40:06] Antarctica uh where we haven't yet

[40:08] discovered them. Yes. Well, that gets

[40:12] you into sacred geography,

[40:16] you know, that Yeah, there there can be

[40:19] a geography that contains elements that

[40:23] aren't visible by ordinary human sense

[40:26] perception.

[40:28] For example, if we look at the venic

[40:33] descriptions of even the earthly

[40:37] planetary

[40:39] level of reality,

[40:42] there's a vision of it that's quite

[40:44] different from what we generally

[40:47] perceive.

[40:48] And it's called in this vision uh buddo

[40:54] the earth circle

[40:57] which involves

[40:59] uh our earth being part of a central

[41:02] island circular island or mandala with a

[41:08] gold mount in the center of it

[41:14] called Mount Meu. And beyond that and

[41:18] the our earth is just part of that

[41:21] central island of Bumango which is

[41:24] inhabited by all kinds of other beings

[41:26] with higher powers

[41:29] things like that. And then there's a

[41:32] ring ocean around. Then there's a ring

[41:36] island. There's a whole sequence of ray

[41:38] oceans and islands around

[41:42] uh Jaba which is where our earth planet

[41:46] is located according to the sacred

[41:49] geography

[41:50] and the beings are

[41:55] of a a different nature entirely. So

[41:58] yeah, there may be hidden aspects of

[42:01] even our current level of reality with

[42:05] beings with different sorts of powers

[42:08] that we would regard as mystical somehow

[42:12] and with technologies that may be based

[42:15] on other principles

[42:17] than are than our own. Yeah. So I I

[42:20] would say yes, Jeffrey, perhaps uh there

[42:24] are dimensions to even our present

[42:27] terrestrial reality that we're not fully

[42:30] aware of. So we're talking about a

[42:34] cosmology then that includes uh highly

[42:38] evolved spiritual beings. It includes a

[42:41] wide array of physical beings from other

[42:45] planets at different levels of spiritual

[42:48] and technological

[42:51] evolution. Uh it includes uh evolved

[42:55] humans like ourselves, sages and yogis

[43:00] uh uh who who have developed many

[43:04] attainments on on this realm. And all of

[43:07] these uh beings are uh interacting with

[43:11] each other and have been interacting

[43:13] with each other for thousands of years,

[43:16] millions of years. Uh what it does

[43:21] is I think it engenders a sense of

[43:26] humility.

[43:28] You know that we're not the masters of

[43:34] the universe so to speak that there are

[43:38] other factors that need to be

[43:42] considered. you know that that you know

[43:46] just like in any city that we live in

[43:49] you know we we we have water we have

[43:52] electricity we have so many things that

[43:56] we take for granted we don't recognize

[43:59] that there are highly intelligent

[44:02] engineers and people that are

[44:04] responsible

[44:06] uh for us having these things we take so

[44:10] much for granted like electricity

[44:13] power

[44:15] uh communications

[44:17] food so many things. So actually

[44:22] according to the vic cosmology our whole

[44:24] universe is arranged like that. There

[44:26] are uh demod sor who are in charge of

[44:33] providing what what we regard as the

[44:36] sensities of of of life in and the

[44:41] cosmos. So this is you know if this is

[44:45] forgot

[44:47] then we get trouble just like when

[44:49] there's some big natural disaster then

[44:52] we suddenly appreciate you know the

[44:54] people who and engineers and others who

[44:58] have supplied us with water with

[45:02] electricity and other things. So, and if

[45:06] we misuse these things, then things are

[45:10] pretty bad. You wind up in big trouble

[45:14] like climate change because of or misuse

[45:18] of resources in an unsustainable way and

[45:23] things like that. There's more to it

[45:25] than just the physical misuse of

[45:28] resources.

[45:32] the uh deviods aren't satisfied

[45:37] with the way that we're behaving. They

[45:41] may restrict our access to certain

[45:44] resources.

[45:47] That's part of the vic cosmology as well

[45:51] that there is

[45:53] a necessity for recognizing

[45:57] these uh entities and properly relating

[46:03] with those.

[46:04] >> In other words, you're suggesting that

[46:06] there's a hierarchy and and a kind of a

[46:09] a cosmological order to things.

[46:12] >> Yes. So I I think that's part of a great

[46:14] many wisdom traditions of the world.

[46:17] They recognize that u

[46:22] it's I mean the alternative is to think

[46:27] well it's there's nothing in control of

[46:31] it. uh more accidental beings existing

[46:36] in an accidental universe

[46:39] and it's just ours to make what we want

[46:44] of it and let's just uh compete with

[46:49] each other to see who comes out on top.

[46:53] China, Russia, the United States,

[46:56] whatever.

[46:57] You've given me a lot of food for

[46:59] thought today, Michael. I I have one

[47:02] other question I'd like to pursue with

[47:04] you. Uh in the western tradition and

[47:08] particularly the western spiritualist

[47:10] tradition and in many other religions

[47:12] there's a sense of ancestor worship that

[47:16] our ancestors uh once they die they are

[47:19] in heaven. They are closer to the deity

[47:21] and we can they they become like angelic

[47:25] figures who mediate between our world

[47:28] and and higher spiritual realms. But in

[47:32] the Yedic tradition, my understanding is

[47:35] that uh reincarnation is considered more

[47:40] uh what happens after death. And and so

[47:43] that uh ancestor worship wouldn't be

[47:46] appropriate in a culture that accepts

[47:49] reincarnation. And I wonder if you have

[47:52] any reflections on that.

[47:54] >> Yeah. Well, that's an interesting point.

[47:56] I would say it's a little more complex

[47:59] that you've put it because there is a

[48:04] kind of ancestor worship and traditional

[48:09] vic or Hindu thor and it has to do with

[48:14] the concept of offering what's called

[48:17] shreddha and shredda means an offering

[48:21] to a departed soul

[48:25] And even in reincarnation, there's a

[48:28] difficulty that can occur.

[48:31] When

[48:33] a soul leaves a body, it goes along

[48:39] along with the soul goes its subtle

[48:42] mental body. And according to the state

[48:46] of the subtle mental body, one will get

[48:49] another gross physical body in the next

[48:52] life. That's what reincarnation is.

[48:56] However, what can sometimes happen is

[49:00] that a soul will leave its gross

[49:03] physical body at the time of death along

[49:06] with its mental body in which its

[49:10] desires and ambitions are stored.

[49:13] And it won't get another gross physical

[49:18] body. It will remain in the form of what

[49:21] we would call a ghost.

[49:23] which means it has all of its desires

[49:28] but no machinery to carry them out. So

[49:34] sometimes to

[49:37] ensure against the possibility that that

[49:40] does not happen to one's relative who

[49:43] has departed one's ancestor. You could

[49:46] say there ends a specific yoga or

[49:51] sacrifice or ceremony that is performed

[49:56] uh this shreddha offering and there's

[49:59] even a a city in India that's completely

[50:03] dedicated to that like a pilgrimage

[50:06] place where people go to specifically

[50:09] offer that shreddha ceremony

[50:13] uh to deliver their ancestor from the

[50:18] possibility of having to remain

[50:20] somewhere

[50:21] as a ghost. So it it's not completely

[50:25] absent from the vic tradition because it

[50:30] it strikes me that uh if we uh accept

[50:34] that there are biological entities like

[50:37] ourselves ourselves on many other

[50:40] planets that to the extent that humans

[50:43] have other realms as you mentioned a

[50:47] mental realm, a causal realm, an astral

[50:50] realm which is described in the

[50:52] upanishad gods uh or the Bardo plains as

[50:56] described in Buddhism. Uh

[51:00] extraterrestrial beings if they're

[51:02] highly evolved would be aware of this as

[51:04] well. And in fact, there are many

[51:06] accounts in the UFO literature of

[51:08] interactions between deceased humans and

[51:12] extraaterrestrial entities.

[51:15] Yes, you're absolutely right about that.

[51:19] Uh there's actually a whole system for

[51:26] handling souls that leave bodies.

[51:29] They're determining their next

[51:31] destination, what planet or level

[51:34] they'll be on, what type of body they'll

[51:36] have. You say that in the Vic cosmology

[51:41] the whole universe or system of

[51:44] universes is uh an arrangement for

[51:47] moving soul conscious selves from one

[51:51] level to another from one type of body

[51:55] to another and there are beings higher

[51:59] beings that are connected with that

[52:02] there's uh Yamaraj for example the lord

[52:06] of death. Uh it's stated that at the

[52:10] time of death uh a soul or conscious

[52:14] self will be taken to the court of the

[52:17] amarrage and they'll have uh the record

[52:21] of the activities that one performed in

[52:24] one's past life and they'll go through

[52:28] that record with with the the soul and

[52:33] on the basis of that they'll be taken to

[52:38] another

[52:39] planet for return to the earth planet

[52:42] and given a certain type of body in a

[52:46] certain family or species of life. And

[52:51] there are uh higher beings called

[52:55] Yamadutas who are the servants of

[52:57] Yamaraj that kind of arrange for the

[53:00] transportation of the uh conscious self.

[53:04] And then there are nishn

[53:10] representatives of the supreme conscious

[53:13] being who sometimes interfere in these

[53:16] things because

[53:18] sometimes

[53:19] the yamadutas make mistakes.

[53:23] They don't take the right soul. They

[53:27] make a mistake or misjudgment about what

[53:30] the destination of the soul is. Is it

[53:33] the two higher realms or lower realms?

[53:36] And these Vishna dudans will

[53:40] intervene. There's one account in the

[53:42] Bavad Piranha of a person named Aja.

[53:48] Yeah. At the time of death when his soul

[53:52] was leaving his body, you say the

[53:54] Yamadunas came and were taking it away.

[53:58] It's kind of like the uh the bad cops.

[54:02] You could say we're taking him away. And

[54:05] yeah, the Vishna Dons came and said,

[54:09] "No, no, no. You can't take you out.

[54:11] He's he's done some really spiritual

[54:14] things. He looks like a really bad guy,

[54:16] but his heart's in the right place."

[54:18] So what happened is is that he had a

[54:22] near-death experience like he he died

[54:24] but he was allowed back in his body and

[54:28] he kind of cleaned up his act a little

[54:32] bit and then at the end of his life he

[54:36] went to a good place you could say.

[54:39] Michael Ko I want to thank you very much

[54:42] for this conversation. You've certainly

[54:44] presented a you big picture within which

[54:47] so many of the diverse uh technological

[54:52] and paranormal developments that are

[54:54] coming to the four now can be

[54:56] understood. So I very much appreciate

[55:00] having this time with you. It's really

[55:03] always an amazing experience for me to

[55:07] be speaking with with you. You draw

[55:11] things out of me. something higher that

[55:13] I I I don't even expect myself.

[55:16] >> Well, thank you very much for being with

[55:19] me, Michael. And for those of you

[55:20] listening or watching, thank you for

[55:23] being with us.

In Michael Cremo's account, Vedic texts describe flying craft used by devas, asuras, and many other beings across different levels of reality. The craft are sorted into three kinds: material vehicles built from physical elements, subtle ones produced by yogic powers, and entirely non-material vehicles of spiritual nature.
Cremo said the Vedic cosmos treats consciousness as primary, with matter coming from consciousness rather than the reverse. He contrasted this with the Western materialist view, in which consciousness is assumed to somehow develop from matter.
According to Cremo, suras are saintly people striving toward a realm beyond birth, death, and competition, while asuras are those moving in the opposite direction. The two groups are in an ongoing cosmic conflict that sometimes involves the earth.
Host Jeffrey Mishlove and Cremo discussed overlaps between Vedic descriptions of flying craft and modern UFO research, with Cremo arguing these parallels should be explored step by step. The comparison is an interpretive argument from the texts, not a conclusion accepted by mainstream science.
Cremo described Maha Vishnu dreaming on the cosmic ocean, with millions of universes expanding and contracting with each of his breaths. He said each breath lasts 311 trillion years, and he linked the Vedic idea of many universes to modern multiverse theories in cosmology.
This is the central question of the conversation. Cremo said many people assume the mythology is figurative or poetic, but he argued the texts are internally coherent and should be taken more seriously, while acknowledging that his view is a challenge to modern assumptions.
