Grounding, Opening, and the Circle of Life: A Findhorn Meditation

Before the session has really begun, the voice leading it asks everyone to feel their feet, sink their attention into the ground, and imagine roots reaching down into the earth. This is the Findhorn Foundation's Daily Meditation for 20 October 2026, a roughly twenty-eight-minute guided sit led by a teacher named Christian. It moves in a clear arc: it grounds the body in the living earth, lets the breath carry that steadiness upward like sap through a tree, opens the heart until it becomes a lotus reaching toward the sun, and then turns the widened attention outward to the rest of life on the planet. Along the way it makes a pointed argument. Human beings, the teacher insists, are one species among many, and much of our suffering comes from forgetting it. The session ends by closing the circle with the Great Invocation. For anyone who has not sat with it, the video is worth understanding as a compact method: root first, then open, then widen, then trust.

What does it mean to ground the body like a tree?

The meditation does not begin with a thought or an idea. It begins with a posture of the body and a picture of the roots. Christian asks listeners to be "like a tree," and to feel the roots "going down into the earth," growing "very deep inside the earth." The instruction is concrete. You are not asked to visualize a generic peace. You are asked to feel gravity pulling you down and to let that pull become support rather than weight.

From there the session widens the image to include the elements. Listeners are invited to feel "all the sacred elements of Mother Earth": the earth itself, the water, the air, and the fire, which the teacher names as "the energy." This is a useful habit for anyone who practices grounding in daily life. Instead of asking "am I calm?", the practice asks "what is the ground made of?" The answer turns attention from a mental state to a physical world that is already holding you up.

Craft matters here. Grounding is the foundation for everything the meditation later attempts. An open heart or an expansive view that is not rooted tends to float away, and the video is structured so the widening only arrives after the roots have taken hold.

Why does the practice release before it opens?

At around the 3:15 mark of the transcript, the instruction shifts to the breath. The teacher asks listeners to breathe in and let the sap rise up through the body, "like the tree," and then to breathe out and let go. The phrase used is letting go of "everything we don't need," with a plain and almost conversational reminder that "there's so much we don't need," and that much of what we carry "was before" and does not have to come along into this moment.

This is the release that makes space. The session treats letting go not as a dramatic act but as a simple exhale, a return to presence. Then the heart is invited to expand and be "filled" with what the teacher calls the beauty of the Earth. The order matters: release, then fill, then open.

What is the lotus image doing in this meditation?

Once the heart is full, the meditation asks the listener to open "our higher centers" and to picture "a huge lotus flower." The image is deliberately large. The flower connects to the sun, and the teacher says we are "made of the sun as well as made of the earth." Light, rays, and warmth become the source of nourishment, and the sense of connection then extends to "the family of stars" and "the galaxy," described as "our true home."

This is the emotional peak of the session, and it is reached through embodiment rather than abstraction. The sky is not a metaphor for transcendence here. It is presented as kin. The practice invites a shift from feeling small in a vast universe to feeling that the universe is a family to which you belong.

Why does the meditation insist we stop being human-centric?

The most pointed section of the video comes when the teacher reflects on a conference attended over the weekend, which the transcript renders as "From Despair to Repair." Christian says one of the most important things taken from it was an invitation to "be aware of all the life": animals, plants, minerals, and "all the unseen realms," including what the tradition calls devas, the intelligences associated with nature.

"Let's not be human-centric. That's one of our biggest problems... We just think of our own little... Let's take care of all other beings also."
(Christian, Findhorn Foundation Daily Meditation, 20 October 2026, approx. 6:30–7:30)

The argument is not that humans are unimportant. It is that the habit of seeing everything through a human lens is itself the problem. The teacher says that if we genuinely attend to the needs and the suffering of other beings, "it will change our outlook." The practice is therefore not only inward. It is a corrective to how we perceive the living world.

What does "we are one species" actually ask of the listener?

The teacher's most compact line is the claim that "we were one species," followed by the observation that all beings "come from Spirit," that all souls are "incarnated," and that none are "higher, not lower." Some beings have large bodies, as the teacher says of the great animals, and some have small ones. The point is about equality of origin, not sameness of form.

"Let's not forget all species."
(Christian, Findhorn Foundation Daily Meditation, 20 October 2026, approx. 7:15–7:30)

Read this way, the meditation's ethical request is simple. If every living being shares a source, then attention to other creatures is not charity. It is recognition. That is the bridge the session builds between its quiet body practice and its broader concern for the planet.

How does trust and asking for guidance fit into the practice?

Near the end, the teacher turns to guidance. The line is candid: "it's not easy," and we have help, including "a team of angels and guides" around us at all times. The instruction is to ask. Christian makes a specific point that help does not always arrive as we want it, "but always as we need it." The practice then moves toward trust in Life, with the reassurance "All is well."

The session cites the guidance of Eileen Caddy, and the teacher offers a principle drawn from that tradition: "find your own guidance." The listener is not told what to believe about angels. They are invited to test the idea in their own attention. The teacher adds that "as each individual seeks and finds that inner peace," peace and harmony can begin to reign, and that every tiny drop of water and every grain of sand contributes to the mighty ocean and the beach. Each person, the video says, "has a part to play."

What is the Great Invocation doing at the end?

The session closes with the Great Invocation, which the teacher introduces as a prayer that can be said inside a "special space." The words move from "the point of light within the mind of God" to "let light stream forth into the minds of men," and from "the point of love within the heart of God" to "may Christ return to Earth." The version heard in the transcript carries the same architecture as the meditation itself: a movement from inner source to outward blessing.

The Invocation works here as a bookend. Having rooted the body, opened the heart, and widened the view, the practice gives the listener a short, shared phrase to carry out of the session. It is a reminder that the inner light being cultivated is meant to move outward into the world.

Where to go from here

If you want to try this practice, start with the simplest element: the grounding. Sit with your feet on the floor and imagine roots going down, then let the breath carry a slow sense of sap rising. Notice what you release on the exhale. Only then try the lotus and the stars. Afterward, ask one question from the teacher's own arc: what in my daily life is shaped by treating the human as the only point of view? The meditation does not hand you the answer. It gives you the posture to look.

The full session is available on the Findhorn Foundation's YouTube channel, and the foundation's wider retreats and gatherings are described at findhorn.org.

[8:41] And

[8:42] find our

[8:43] guidance

[8:45] Because

[8:46] it's not

[8:47] easy

[8:50] And

[8:50] we have

[8:51] help. We

[8:52] have

[8:52] And we have help. We have amazi

[8:53]

[8:53] of an

[8:54] d

[8:55] guides

[8:56] g team of angels and guides aro

[8:58] So

[8:59] let's be

[9:00] aware of

[9:00] that

[9:03] And

[9:04] to ask

[9:05] Ask for

[9:06] help when

[9:07] we need it

[9:09] Head doesn't come

[9:10] unasked

[9:10] Head doesn't come unasked, beca

[9:11] e

[9:14] So we need to

[9:15] ask

[9:17] And

[9:17] asking

[9:19] asking will

[9:19] And asking all the asking will d

[9:21] Not always

[9:23] we, as

[9:24] we

[9:25] want

[9:26] But

[9:27] always as

[9:27] we

[9:28] need

[9:32] So

[9:33] .

[9:34] So, let's

[9:35] find that place

[9:36] So, let's find that place of in

[9:39] Trust

The 20 October 2026 session, led by Christian, is a guided sit that grounds the body in the earth, opens the heart toward the sun and stars, and widens attention to all living beings. It closes with the Great Invocation. It works as a complete arc from rooting to reaching outward.
Sit with your feet on the floor and imagine roots growing down deep into the earth, feeling gravity as support. The session then adds the sacred elements of earth, water, air, and fire. Let the breath carry a sense of sap rising through the body.
The teacher says we are one species, that all beings come from Spirit, and that no soul is higher or lower regardless of body size. The point is equality of origin, which asks listeners to stop viewing the world only through a human lens.
It is a prayer the teacher introduces as a way to close the session in a special space. It moves from the point of light and love within the mind and heart of God toward streaming light into humanity and the Earth. The meditation uses it to carry inner light outward.
The transcript renders the title as 'From Despair to Repair.' Christian says he followed it over the weekend and took away the importance of awareness of all life and avoiding a human-centric view. The video does not give further details about the conference.
The teacher says guidance is not always easy to receive, and that we have help from angels and guides. You are invited to ask, and to trust that help comes as we need it rather than as we want. The principle offered is to find your own guidance.
