説明
Vibrations of Love is a community kirtan chanting evening on Bowen Island, British Columbia, led by Jack, Soorya, Matthew, and Deviki. Held in the geodesic yoga dome at Nectar Yoga Retreat, it is an evening of Bhakti kirtan, the devotional call-and-response chanting of the Bhakti yoga tradition. It suits anyone curious about mantra, from first-time chanters to seasoned kirtan regulars, and children are welcome with a guardian.
What to Expect
The evening runs two hours. It begins with grounding breathwork and mindfulness, so that people can arrive and settle before any singing starts. From there the gathering eases into call-and-response mantra practice: a leader sings a phrase, and the room sings it back.
Most of the mantras are chanted in Sanskrit, the ancient language of yoga, valued for its vibrational and meditative qualities. Some are chanted in other sacred languages from around the world. Between each chant there is a pause of silence for reflection and integration, so the music has room to settle.
Participation is always optional. You can sing, listen, meditate, or move as the music inspires you. The band members take turns leading each song, so the energy shifts from one chant to the next. This is a Bowen community-led gathering, and it has the feel of neighbours making music together.
About the Leaders
Jack, Soorya, Matthew, and Deviki are the Bhakti band members who lead this community kirtan, taking turns at the helm so that each song carries its own character. Each brings a different energy to the circle, and the rotation is part of what makes the evening feel shared rather than performed.
The Setting
Nectar Yoga Retreat sits on Bowen Island, BC, and the kirtan takes place in its geodesic yoga dome. Follow the signs to the dome when you arrive. Parking is limited, so carpooling is strongly encouraged. One washroom is available, located inside the Onyx Lodge, and guests are encouraged to use it before coming up to the dome.
Before You Go
No previous chanting or yoga experience is necessary. Bring an open heart, and come as you are.
- Yoga props are provided, including backjacks and bolsters, and a limited number of chairs are available for those who prefer them.
- Children of all ages are welcome when accompanied by a guardian.
- Meals are not part of the evening.
- Contributions are on a sliding scale, offered when you register.
Whether you sing every line or simply sit and listen, the aim is the same: a quiet, connected evening of mantra and silence shared with others on the island.
