Malte Marten
sound healing
Description
Malte Marten brings his Healing Frequencies Tour to De Bijloke in Ghent, Belgium, for an evening of live handpan music and sound. It is a seated concert for anyone who wants two unhurried hours of listening: people who already fall asleep, work or meditate to his recordings, and those curious about the handpan and its calm, bell-like sound. Malte plays with his trio, Conrado Molina on percussion and Bummela as multi-instrumentalist.
What to Expect
The evening is shaped from beginning to end, so it feels less like a setlist and more like one continuous experience. The music, the silence between pieces and the stories Malte shares are all part of it. Alongside the handpan, the percussion and Bummela's instruments create a rich, spacious sound that stays intimate even in a large hall.
The aim is simple: to make the outside world a little quieter. There is no pressure, no rush and nowhere else to be, just music, presence and room to breathe. The concert runs about two hours. Most shows on the tour start at 8 pm, and doors usually open 75 minutes earlier, though the exact times are shown on your ticket.
About Malte Marten
Malte Marten is a handpan musician, composer and teacher. His path began in 2014, when he came across a video of the duo Hang Massive. He sold all the music equipment he owned as a beatmaker and DJ to buy his first handpan, and he later played on the streets of Berlin.
From 2015 to 2020 he toured with his former duo, Yatao. Over those years teaching became a passion alongside performing, and the duo gave workshops and retreats and co-founded the YataoShop, a place for people to take their first steps with the instrument. In 2021 the duo's project ended and Malte began his solo work, funding his first solo studio album through crowdfunding. His videos on Instagram and YouTube have since reached listeners around the world. What moves him most is hearing that his music has helped people through personal challenges.
The Trio
Conrado Molina plays percussion and voice. Bummela is a multi-instrumentalist and producer. With Malte's handpan and composition at the centre, the three shape the sound of the evening together.
Before You Go
All seats at the tour venues are seated, so you can settle in and simply listen. No experience with the handpan or with meditation is needed. A handpan is a steel instrument played with the hands, with a warm sound rich in overtones, a little like bells.
Child tickets are available for ages 12 and up, and wheelchair spaces can be arranged with the organizers. Malte has said that nothing replaces the feeling of hearing this music together in one room, and a concert at De Bijloke is a chance to do just that.
