Kirtan Artist
Rob and Melissa are partners in music, in life, and in devotion. They are kirtan singers and yoga teachers who share the heart-opening practices of Bhakti Yoga and kirtan. Their songs blend Sanskrit chants with modern, accessible melodies and lush harmonies. Listeners have described the atmosphere as "heart-opening bliss," "joyful medicine," and "love and devotion materialized."
When they met, neither practiced Bhakti yoga or sang kirtan. From the beginning they agreed to make love and devotion the heart of their relationship, and they promised to keep seeing each other only as long as they were both being nice and having fun. That became their first mantra, "Be Nice and Have Fun," which found its way into their wedding vows. As the relationship deepened, so did their pull toward the devotional path, and their love for each other grew into a love of sharing sacred sound with others.
They began simply as "Rob and Melissa" and released their first EP, Bolo, under that name. Before their first full-length album, Tejase, they considered a more traditional spiritual name. They kept coming back to accessibility, to the idea that kirtan can be for everyone. Then, while doodling logo ideas, they noticed that Rob And Melissa spells R-A-M, a name of God. For their album Breathe they created the logo R∆M. Their newest album is The Story of Sita and Ram.
They have shared kirtan and Bhakti yoga in Costa Rica, Bali, Hawaii, the Bahamas, Greece, Spain, India, and beyond. They also lead retreats that weave together kirtan, mantra, gentle movement, satsang, and time in nature. Their mission is simple: to bring more love into the world, and to soften the barriers that keep people feeling separate.
Worth Knowing
Start with their recent album The Story of Sita and Ram, which represents their most developed artistic voice after years of touring and refining their approach to weaving sacred story with accessible melody. If you want instrumental texture first, Breathe showcases the lush harmonies and spacious arrangements they're known for, with meditative pacing custom-built for yoga practice or personal reflection. Their earlier works—the debut EP Bolo and first full-length Tejase—document their evolution and capture something essential about their journey as a couple discovering kirtan and Sanskrit chanting together, but The Story of Sita and Ram feels like the culmination of their clarity. Practically speaking, many newcomers find their YouTube channel the gentlest entry point—you can watch them live, observe how they guide call-and-response kirtan with an audience, and feel the community atmosphere their satsangs generate. If you're drawn to embodied practice rather than just listening, their retreat work—offered globally—immerses you in the full experience: mantras, gentle movement, time in nature, and the particular intimacy of singing devotional sound with others in person. Start wherever feels least intimidating—album, video, or retreat—but give at least 15 minutes before deciding; their work requires a moment to settle into your nervous system.
